Some of our readers have forwarded this link, which is allegedly the blog of Rebecca A. Long, the woman who is accused of starving her step-daughter a step away from death.
I can't confirm this is her blog, but all signs point to it being just that, with her husband Jon being photoed on the blog, as well as the couple's healthy son. Not pictured? The young girl they were destroying both physically and emotionally.
So what does a psychotic child-torturer talk about? Knitting, of course! This blog is so ridiculously sickening to look at now given what we know. The family is happily pictured modeling the sweaters Long was knitting while, off in the garage, a girl that looked half her age due to extreme malnutrition, was screaming for help.
Most of the blog is very boring stuff about knitting. How someone could write this much about knitting when they don't appear to be all that good at it is wonder enough, but some of the things she writes are disturbing when put into context. While Long was starving her stepdaughter, she had developed some truly affectionate feelings for her knitting material.
"I love my stash. I love my stash so much that I'd like to knit it instead of merely accumulating more. Some goals and tools will make this possible."
The other aspect that makes the stomach curl is how well-fed the rest of the family appears to be. I'll avoid putting up the photo's of their stepson as it was not his fault his stepmother had been infested by Satan. But watch as the girl's biological father proudly models his newest sweater addition. This guy was too busy to notice that he no longer seemed to have a daughter, but he sure seemed to have time to pose for corny pictures for his wife's blog.
If you had no idea what these people have done, this would simply be a very boring blog. But looking at this through the scope of knowing the facts, it's a telling look into the mind of someone who apparently put balls of yarn above the wellbeing of a human being.
I still don't get how these animals are only facing a max of four years for their crime. A few years ago a friend of mine was facing five years for assault after getting into a fistfight outside of a party. The person he fought had no broken bones, no permanent damage, and no psychological scarring. We'll never know what this girl would have been like if given the chance to grow up normally. And yet her parents could be free from prison in less time than it takes most people to graduate from college.
Just despicable.
