Yet, we produce enough food to feed 12 Billion people
Why?
"We Feed the World" is a film about food and the impacts of globalization--from fishermen to farmers, the flow of goods and cash, and it's a film about scarcity, real and created.
Why doesn't a tomato taste like a tomato today? India supplies 80% of Switzerland's wheat supply, yet 200 million Indians suffer from malnutrition. Why is the Amazon rainforest being cleared to grow soy beans?
"The images of this film stay in your mind long after the closing credits. The film reveals the paradoxical disparity between the prevalence of hunger and the overproduction of food, sometimes within the same country. It exposes the very high cost of this enormous food production in terms of ecological health, quality of the foods, and humane treatment of animals, and still there is so much food waste and millions of people starving. How can we let this happen?"
Tonight Wallingford's Meaningful Movies screens, "We Feed the World." If you haven't been to Meaningful Movies yet, this is something quite special. Afterwards, the participants stay and discuss the film. The event is free, and donations are kindly accepted.
