Teton County Attorney Steve Weichman says he's working on legislation that would require people to carry bear spray when they are in grizzly country.
Such legislation could require that one puts their gun down and use pepper spay in its place, but even more ridiculous is this:
“Weichman also noted recent studies that show bear spray is more effective than bullets at preventing injury to humans during a bear attack”.
I don't know what study he has been reading but a mother grizzly is darn near unstoppable if you happen to get between her and her cubs.
If he really cared about human life he would be telling individuals to carry enough firepower instead of arming themselves with a false sense of security.
Maybe Mr. Weichman forgot to read this from the Counter Assault Spay web-site:
Under no circumstances should bear spray create a false sense of security or serve as a substitute for standard safety precautions in bear country.
This is just another attempt to replace the only viable option, a gun to protect your life from an attack. This kind of legislation is dangerous, next they will use this same logic in the case of a human assailant expecting you to first use your pepper spray against a gun wielding attacker.
The best solution, let people decide for themselves - Wyoming doesn't need California style legislation.
