You might know the name Ad-Aware, a virus-fighting program developed by Lavasoft. This program protects your computer from malware. This and most other virus protections stop working while you play online games, presumably so the game wouldn't lag. Lavasoft recently announced it is coming out with the new Ad-Aware Game Edition designed specifically to tackle viruses, trojans, and all other forms of malware while you play video games.
In a recent interview with GamePro (which you can read at this link), Lavasoft stated that "virus attacks on video games is a problem that has increased over %600 in the last year." Games that are targeted are popular MMOs such as World of Warcraft, Runescape, Maplestory, and many others. The damage can be anything from hacking, to stolen passwords and accounts. The virtual goods will then probably be sold for real money. Which means all the money and time you spent on your game go down the drain.
Even if you don't purchase the Game Edition of Ad-Aware, this is an issue that you should be aware of if you're an online gamer. What's next? Possibly the hacking of online console games. Hopefully it won't come to that.
