Twitter users Shakira, Alicia Keys and Roots are set to be part of the Rockefeller tree lighting special, "Christmas in Rockefeller Center" in New York City. Twitter users have started to tweet about their excitement over these performers and others. Aretha Franklin, Barry Manilow, Michael Buble, The Radio City Rockettes are also scheduled to perform in the annual televised event.
The show is scheduled for Wednesday, December 2nd from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (EST) on NBC and will be hosted by Jane Krakowski (30 Rock) and Zachary Levi (Chuck). According to a statement by NBC, "The 77th annual tree lighting will also include a performance by co-host Krakowski with The Roots and appearances by Taylor Schilling (NBC's "Mercy"), James Tupper (NBC's "Mercy") and Brian Williams ("NBC Nightly News")."
The "Green is Universal initiative" is a NBC baby and works with the Arbor Day Foundation. Every half hour during the show, viewers will be asked to text NBCU. In return, a tree will be planted in their behalf.
