Sun Kwon

When we first met Sun way back in season one, as far as we could tell, she was an outsider who couldn't speak English, was trapped in a mentally abusive relationship with husband Jin, and we needed to feel sorry for her. But rather than being just a book to be judged by her cover, Sun ended up being one of the most surprising characters as we learned that she knew English all along and of her shady past...
Reasons for travel: Jin worked for Sun's father, and on this particular business trip, they were delivering two watches to some clients. Later, we learned that Sun planned to leave Jin at the airport and start a new happier life elsewhere, but luckily (or unluckily) for her, she changed her mind and got on the plane anyway.
Flashbacks: Sun was a wealthy girl--the daughter of powerful and feared businessman Mr. Paik. She fell madly in love with Jin, a fisherman's son who though his lack of money or power, she loved deeply. Her father gave the happy couple his blessing, and gave Jin a job. But the job changed him, and he became secretive, and even on one occasion, he come home bloody. Hating her life, Sun learned English hoping she might one day escape. And she found it: she began an affair with her English tutor that ended with her father discovering them, and the man throwing himself out of a window.
Island life: Sun began her stay on the island completely alone--unable to communicate with her fellow castaways, and stuck with a husband who was completely overbearing. But sooner or later the truth was bound to come out and after her English-speaking revelation, she and Jin went their separate ways...only to find their way back to each other and a happy marriage. Sun discovered that she was pregnant and though she didn't know who was the father at first, she and Jin celebrated and vowed to get off the island to raise their baby.
Post-island: Sun was one of the lucky Oceanic Six, and made it safely off the island. Jin however we killed when the freighter exploded thanks to Ben's selfish act of violence...or so everyone thought. Sun gave birth to her baby, a girl named Ji Yeon, became a powerful business woman as a way to hurt her father, and sought revenge for Jin's "death". Everything was going according to plan when she discovered that her husband was actually alive (!!!). Abandoning her child, Sun returned to the island, only to be stuck thirty years apart from her love; she in 2008, he in 1977.
Season six goals: Reunite with Jin again. I'm pretty sure that there is plenty more for Sun to do next year, but let's face it: Sun and Jin are the couple you want to finally see together and happy. My guess is that they will find their way off the island and meet with their daughter where they really belong.
