Attention fathers!  The Naples Zoo is calling for all of those half-used bottles of cheap cologne and aftershave that have been cluttering up your medicine cabinet since last Father’s Day.  Dads can trade those scents for free zoo admission by bringing the bottle to the zoo all Father’s Day weekend (June 19-22).

The zoo will use the scents for animal enrichment.  As many animals perceive the world as much through smell as we do through sight, a spray of cologne on a toy, a tree, or a path stimulates curiosity in the animals to use their skills to inspect their environment. If you don’t have cologne, you can also bring some of mom’s perfume.

The Naples Zoo is perfect for a fun-filled family afternoon.  Enjoy rare and beautiful animals such as the African Wild Dogs and Asian Deer.  Favorite creatures such as lions, kangaroos, tortoises, and zebras reside in this tropical setting. Shows such as Planet Predator and Serpents:  Fangs and Fiction are sure to entertain everyone.  And feeding time at Alligator Bay is an exciting opportunity to see these meat-eating reptiles in action.  Check the web-site for show and feeding times.

A new exhibit called Black Bear Hammock is the largest Black bear exhibit at any Association of Zoos and Aquariums accredited zoo east of the Mississippi.   It was designed to educate visitors about living with the state’s wild bears.  There are two distinct habitats in the exhibit:  a natural habitat and a backyard habitat.   Guests will learn basic safety tips in case a bear is encountered in the wild, as well as ways to avoid attracting them to their yard. Naples Zoo hopes visitors will leave with a deeper appreciation of the bears’ important role in the local environment.

One of the biggest highlights of the visit will be the Primate Expedition Cruise.  This twenty-minute catamaran cruise will take you past islands filled with lemurs, monkeys, and apes living in their natural habitats.

Several play areas are available for children.   Subway sandwiches and a gift shop are also on premises.
