THE FUTURE IS NOW: ADLER FELLOWS GALA CONCERT
2009 ADLER FELLOWSHIP SEASON CULMINATES NOVEMBER 22
AT THE HERBST THEATRE
SAN FRANCISCO (October 30, 2009)—San Francisco Opera Center presents the final Adler Fellowship concert of the 2009 season, The Future is Now: Adler Fellows Gala Concert, Sunday, November 22 at 7 p.m. at the Herbst Theatre in the War Memorial Veterans Building.
The concert showcases the talented young artists from San Francisco Opera Center’s prestigious young artists training program in a gala concert of opera scenes and arias, including works by Mozart, Rossini, Donizetti and Berlioz. The concert is conducted by San Francisco Opera Center Director of Musical Studies Mark Morash.
The Future is Now features sopranos Tamara Wapinsky (Pottsville, Pennsylvania) and Leah Crocetto (Adrian, Michigan); mezzo-sopranos Daveda Karanas (Mandeville, Louisiana), Daniela Mack (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Renée Tatum (Carlsbad, California); tenors Andrew Bidlack (Chambersburg, Pennsylvania), Alek Shrader (Alva, Oklahoma) and David Lomelí (Monterrey, Mexico); baritone Austin Kness (Cedar Rapids, Iowa); bass Kenneth Kellogg (Washington, D.C.); and apprentice coaches Dennis Doubin (Moscow, Russia) and Allen Perriello (Gibsonia, Pennsylvania).
Soprano Heidi Melton (Spokane, Washington) is unavailable for this concert due to a Metropolitan Opera engagement.

Outgoing 2009 Adler Fellows are sopranos Heidi Melton and Tamara Wapinsky; mezzo-sopranos Daveda Karanas, Daniela Mack and Renée Tatum; tenors Andrew Bidlack and Alek Shrader; bass Kenneth Kellogg; and Apprentice Coach Dennis Doubin. Leah Crocetto, David Lomelí, Austin Kness and apprentice coach Allen Perriello have received 2010 Adler Fellowships and will begin their second year in the program beginning January 2010.
Named for former San Francisco Opera General Director Kurt Herbert Adler, the Adler Fellowship Program is a performance-oriented residency offering intensive individual training, coaching, professional seminars and a wide range of performance opportunities throughout their fellowship. Adler Fellows also gain valuable professional experience by performing supporting roles in San Francisco Opera’s main-stage productions. The Adler Fellows are selected from the young artists who have participated in the Merola Opera Program.
Note mezzo Renee Tatum will perform in San Francisco's final opera of the season, Otello, opening Sunday, November 8. Renee will be appearing as Iago’s wife and Desdemona’s maid Emilia. Renee also sang in this season’s highly acclaimed production of Salome.
Alek Shrader performs bel canto at his own salon at Hotel Rex on Union Square. It's this Wednesday and an oversold house. He performs with baritone Austin Kness.

Tickets for The Future is Now: Adler Fellows Gala Concert are priced at $20 (Balcony), $40 (Orchestra Rear/Dress Circle/Dress Circle Side), and $55 (Box Seats/Orchestra), and may be purchased by calling the San Francisco Opera Box Office (Mon-Sat, 10 am – 6 pm) at (415) 864-3330. Tickets for the post-performance reception with the artists in the Green Room, located in the War Memorial Veterans Building are available for $40.
The Herbst Theatre is located in the War Memorial Veterans Building at 401 Van Ness Avenue at McAllister Street.
