A report out of Pennsylvania April 29 describes what appeared at first to be a meteor - but then the object displayed characteristics of something controlled.
Similar reports have been made across the country lately.
The witness describes the object's erratic behavior in this unedited report from the Mutual UFO Network witness database.
PA, April 29, 2009 - Meteor like object that disappeared and reappeared
I was just coming home from the store when I saw a meteor like object that disappeared and reappeared in the horizon. It started above the tree line, streaked toward the horizon at a 45 degree angle, disappeared, then reappeared taking the same path, then disappeared again before the horizon.
I thought it may have been a meteor, but it flashed and didn't continue into the tree line like a normal meteor would.
From out files, here is a similar case that occurred over Montana skies on April 6.
Montana, April 6, 2009 - Fireball streaking toward ground, disappeared for 10 seconds, then shot back skyward.
From 2 miles south of Plevna (driving from south to north), MT my wife and I saw a fireball streaking down at a steep angle. It was a bit north of Plevna and was about half way up the horizon. It appeared for 1 to 2 seconds, bright flash, the fireball, a minimal fire streak with it. It was bright, then dim, then bright, then dim, then gone at about 1/4 of the horizon. We both said wow, meteor. We were excited to both have seen the "meteor". About 5-10 seconds later the same object went shooting back skyward along about the same line it took coming down. It appeared for less then a second, brightly, then was gone. It was really moving at a high rate of speed in both directions, nearly as fast going back up as it was coming down. It disappeared after that, we spent about 20 minutes watching to see if it would show up again. Once it shot back up we both knew right then and there that it couldn't be a "meteor". We both thought we spotted a UFO and were excited about it. We even tried to mentally ask it to reappear. Unfortunately that did not happen.
And this case from Arizona with an unusual image.
AZ, March 20, 2009 - Thought it was a large shooting star but soon determined it was very different.
On Friday March 20, 2009 shortly before eight pm I went outside to look at the sky. To my surprise I thought I saw a large white shooting star descending to earth. Lost sight of it behind a building.

Almost instantly I saw it or something very similar shooting up from the same area I watched the object disappear. This object was white and arching up toward the south. As it gained altitude it seemed to have smaller shooting stars coming from the original object. It continued up until it disappeared. As soon as it disappeared another or the same object appeared traveling parallel to the ground producing smaller versions of itself until they too disappeared. This continued for approximately fifteen minutes and culminated in a white ball turning red with a green fuzzy area around it. This too faded from view then I saw an orange glow that consumed approximately ten percent of the southern sky. During the entire event I never heard a sound. Nor do I recall seeing the laddder in both pictures.I was not the only witness as someone sent in a report that very night form Peoria AZ. I did not have the digital Rebel XSI 12 mega-pixel with a 100-300mm lens at maximum extension. I grabbed my camera to take the attached photos but did not have a tripod available which resulted in the blurry photos. Multiple objects appear in the photos due to the length of time the shutter had to remain open to gather enough light. I did get some video but for some reason I can not send the files or copy them to a DVD.
