March UFO reports include a dozen low flying objects over nine states and 13 interesting cases of odd lights at higher altitudes over 12 states, according to witness testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) reporting database.
MUFON is now responding within 24 hours to selected Close Encounters of the Second Kind - those UFO sightings where the object reaches the ground - through their recently announced Star Team Impact Program (SIP). You can read more about it here.
The following selected low flying cases occured throughout March, but were reported to MUFON between March 9-15. In a second report here, you can read about other reported anomalies at higher altitudes. And with recent low flying sightings over Salt Lake City, you can read about the most recent sighting here.
All reports are unedited.
The first case is an Arizona witness who saw six lights hovering "between the sillhouette of two mountain tops" in the distance. When he tried to get closer to the lights in his vehicle, he lost sight of them, and when he returned home the lights were gone. He later saw a single light in the sky, and later two lights - each of these disappearing as though someone had placed a cloak over them. He also witnessed "sporadic silver individual sparkler like objects that were silver flashing on and of."
| AZ, March 5, 2009 - Oval shaped six amber lights in a row, four to the right and two to the left slightly staggered. | |
| I was sitting in my back yard looking off to the west and had an unobstructed view of approximately half a mile or more, and above the roofline between the sillhouette of two mountain tops I saw a series of six lights. I have studied the lights and being familar with the skyline I knew these were new and unusual. I waited approximately 15 mintues to see if they would move or change and they did not. I went quickly into the house to get my camera, and this approximately one minute, I returned to the back yard with camera and photographed the skyline and lights wich were unchanged. I waited approximately five minutes longer and then went to my vehicle drove approximately five minutes, lost visual, returned to my back yard and they were gone. I did not witness their leaving or disappearance. I then sat waiting hoping they would return and noticed a brief return of one individual light in similar position in the sky, but further south on the horizon. This appeared in front of me, and then disappeared as if a cloak was covering it from one side and then was gone. I then drove approximately 1/4 mile to my moms, picked her up and together we drove approximately 100 yards to the edge of our neighborhood. We sat looking into the night sky to the west, hoping for a nother glimpse or sighting. We waited approximately 15 minutes, and again south of the original sighting two more lights appeared. This was witnessed by my mom as well. These remained in the sky approximately three minutes, and then disappeared as per the single sighting, as if a cloak covered the two lights. Then using binoculars I searched the skies and noticed sporadic silver individual sparkler like objects that were silver flashing on and off throughout the field of vision in the binoculars as if strobing and changing position. These were not visible with the naked eye. We then waited another twenty minutes, and no other lights appeared. We drove approximately five miles to another location, waited approximately twenty minutes, no further sightings and we returned home. Photo to be attached later I am using Christine Dickey's e-mail address as I do not have one. |
This case involves a Minnesota witness who caught a light rotating in a light patch of clouds. The witness watch this object float over his driveway and hover at about the tree top level.
| MN, March 8, 2009 - Rotating light at tree top height. | |
| At 5:35am I took my dogs outside. As I stood on my sidewalk I noticed a light patch in the clouds in the east-northeast sky. It was overcast and no stars or the moon were visible. My first thought was that it was a star shining through a thin patch of clouds but then I quickly noticed it was rotating clockwise in a rather tight circle. One rotation took approximately 5-6 seconds. The object or light was about tree top height. It seemed to be over my driveway. There was no noticeable "beam" to discern if it was shining from above or below the clouds. I watched it for a few minutes outside but got spooked and cold so went inside. I watched it from a window and it continued to rotate in an even circle at an even pace. It never went higher or lower. I watched it for about 10 more minutes until it just vanished. The time that it vanished was 5:52am. I am very curious to find out what this was - as I am sure everyone who sees something odd is. My first feeling was that it was from a searchlight but we are somewhat rural and the circle was so small and compact that does not seem possible. |
Two orange and yellow orbs appeared over the Arizona skies on March 9.
| AZ, March 9, 2009 - two orbs (orange and Yellow appeared sometimes for 2 plus minutes and sometimes for less than 5 seconds |
We were driving home from a trip to San Diego and had just left Yuma. Myself, My wife and our two kids plus a friend of our sons was with us. After driving for about 45 minutes out of yuma just past the Mohawk rest stop and my son and his friend asked what the object was in the sky. I was in the passenger side of our van and looked to the sky where they were pointing (southwest over the desert). Sitting the the front passenger side and heading east I had to look over my left sholder at about 3pm on a clock to see them. As we were driving we noticed several cars parked on the side of the road looking at the same lights. What we saw were two orbs a good distance apart. One was orange in color and the other was yellow. The stayed mnotionless for over 3 minutes from the time we started looking at them. We thought they might be flares but they did not move and did not appear to have any smoke and did not appear to be moving downward. The objects faded out and then re-appeared father south and east (from my point of view they were infront and to the right of the passenger side of our van (we could not tell how high in the sky they were). I used my cell phone to take pictures and have attached them. They are not the best photos but at least I got a few as well as my wife who was driving, I also believe that my son and his friend got some pics on their cell phones. the objects stayed there for a short period of time (1 minute 23 seconds) then faded again. This happend the entire way to Gila Bend. They faded in and out for several seconds or for several minutes. Once we reached the Gila bend Shell station we continued to watch the orbs and then they seemed to dissapear. My son and his friend stopped in the rest room at the shell and were talking about the orbs and a local said that they see some wierd stuff out there and as long as they leave him alone he did not care. I have several photos. It did not appear to us when taking them that we have more than two in some. We were trying to find red and blue lights on the objects to see if they were planes but did not see any. We also did notice many flashing lights from planes that appeared to be following these lights and they seemed much more erratic and the orbs stayed stationary. |
Four lights in the night sky seemed to be attached to each other in this Texas case.
| TX, March 8, 2009 - Low flying lights in night clouds. | |
| I live in housing community that's in the country; so there is a neighborhood and a 2 lane paved road connecting it to a highway. This event happened while leaving the neighborhood. I left the neighborhood at 4:25 am, and had just started down the road. It was a very bright night, mostly due to the moon it seemed. It was warm out, windy and there were a lot of low moving clouds. It wasn't raining or storming, but had that sort of feel. It was nice enough out that I rolled down my window, I was heading north so the moon was on the drivers side. I looked up to see the moon and sky when I saw 4 lights that seemed to be attached to each other; although I could not see any form holding them together. They were as bright as the moon was and seemed to be fairly low, my guess is that they were under 400 feet in altitude. The color of the light was a white/blue. They didn't change color and resembled a bright light at a stadium. If the lights were all connected and it was 1 object, it would have been a very large object. My guess is that the area they covered was about half a football field. My perspective may not have allowed me to see the entire object. The first time I saw the lights I returned my eyes to the road and thought it was just a reflection in the window. Then I realised, the window was down and looked up again to see the exact same lights; this time with a bit of a startle. I relaxed and looked up a 3rd time, but then it was gone. I didn't see it fly off or move away; although I was also trying to watch the road. I returned back down the road about an hour later and saw nothing. |
A Florida witness described this large rectangular craft as a "flying bus."
| FL, March 9, 2009 - One looked like a flying bus, rounded at front and back, other circle. | |
came from the northwest headed southeast, first one large rectangle white lights red flashing on rear, rounded on front and rear. three others were cirles, disk like red and white lights, 3 headed southeast, one headed east. The one headed east had white lights in the center and red around the disk, white lights went out and red lights started moving almost like light chaser Christmas lights. One of the small ones looked like it was doing acrobates. I was taking my garbage can to the road around 9:00 p.m., it was a very clear night with a bright moon, and I was just looking at the sky, when I saw a large object coming from the northwest, 3 more followed within the next 30 mins, one very large and 2 smaller ones. It was exciting, I called my nephew to ask him to get on his computer and see if it was the International Space Station, because I had seen it on February 14th, but this was much larger and closer, He said I should not be able to see it until 5:30 am the next morning. |
A black triangular-shaped object was spotted heading west toward Chicago.
| IL, March 12, 2009 - Black triangle seen flying overhead. | |
I was walking my dog in the morning when I noticed a bright white light off in the distance. I didn't pay to much attention to it, thinking it was just an airplane. After a minute the light was closer and I could notice two blinking white lights behind it. Again, I assumed it was an airplane's winglights. After a few more minutes heard a low humming noise and looked above me. Floating by was a low flying large trianglular craft. The tip of it emitted a bright white light and the two end point had blinking blue lights. The bottom of the craft had 3 rows of thin dim yellow lights. After I had noticed it, it changed direction by about 70 degrees bearing north and then headed almost due west towards Chicago. The light remained in sight for several minutes after the event, then i lost it beyond a treeline. During and after the event I was terrified. This may have been the most terrifying expirience of my life. I have contacted local authorities and local airports, none of which report unusual activity or craft in the area at the time. No reports on this have been filed either. |
An "elongated, amber glow" object was slow moving over Arizona skies and dropped to between 600 and 800 feet.
| AZ, March 13, 2009 - Elongated, amber glow - slowly moving across the horizon, 600-800 ft. above ground. | |
I am reporting this on behalf of my co-workers. They know I often see these types of thing and are embarrassed but astounded by what they saw. Two witnesses traveling in separate vehicles on the same stretch of road at approx. 5:30AM March 13th met at work and excitedly asked each other if they "saw that thing over the golf course". I arrived a few minutes later at the office and they described it to me. Description: Elongated, orange/amber glowing edge of a possible craft of unknown size and shape. They both could make out that there was something large and dark trailing behind the glowing light and that the light was "attached" to the object. The glowing portion was symmetrical. When one of the witnesses stopped and got out of the vehicle to observe, she noticed a "twinkling" or "ember-type" of material lightly "sprinkling" or "trickling" down from the lighted area. The craft moved very slowly from North to South and was within the city limits. The distance above the ground was approx. 600-800ft. or "two or three football fields up". Both witnesses were pressed to get to work so the longest encounter lasted about 2 minutes. 10 minutes after the event was first witnessed I drove around the area to see if I could spot it. I didn't see anything. I spoke to a person on the golf course that was outside working during the event, he did not get a look at it either. |
A Cigar-shaped object hovered low over Maine. The witness said it had an "appealing gray metalic shiny surface."
| ME, March 11, 2009 - Saw metalic gray cigar-shaped object hovering low in sky. | |
I was up early to take an early swim which I rarely do. I needed to be back early to meet some contracted men who were to remodel our basement flooring. It was dark when I left for the pool. It was dawn when I drove home. The moon was huge and striking-looking at the horizon. I drove down our road. My mind was on getting breakfast. I saw a metalic gray form above the road and took it for another airplane getting ready to land at the nearby airport. Then I noticed it wasn't moving. I looked carefully at it to make sure it wasn't moving. It wasn't. It was cigar shaped, no protrusions top or bottom, rounded ends,no windows, etc. It had an appealing gray metalic shiny surface. Glossy like the wet gray pebbles in a Tanguy painting. This glossy surface appealed to me as in a Tanguy painting. I was thinking of going to the house, seconds from where I had stopped, for binoculars. But when I got to our driveway I saw the men had already arrived and I had to deal with them. Later that day at around 7pm EST at night I saw a huge pink/mauve flower-like brightening just above the trees. I took it for some strange star. I called to my wife who confirmed it. When I returned it was gone. I could see it was a very clear night with lots of bright stars. The object had shut out the other stars with its brightness. ASid from northern lights, which are shaped differently, I have never seen such color in such an object in the sky, including the sun at sunrise or sunset. The rays of light coming from its center were dense and looked like petals of flowers with dense, slender shapes. Not unlike a seas anemone. |
A black and somwhat round object dropped as low as 800 feet over Colorado.
| CO, March 7, 2009 - While walking saw black somewhat round object over head. | |
I was just taking a lunch break and going for a walk when I had this sensation that I had better look up, and as I did I immediatly saw this black round object that seemed to float, spin, and dip along in the air. I was determined to not take my eyes off of it for one moment. The object stayed in my field of view for approximately two minutes total. The wind was out of the southwest at a brisk fifteen m.p.h. The black object changed shape several times as I watched it. I thought at first it must be a plastic bag of some sort but it continued to fly directly against the wind! The approximate altitude I would guess was at about 1200 feet at first site. The object then moved directly over where I was standing and appeared to come closer to me, I would guess to about 800 ft. Then I could clearly see the surface seemed to be folding in on itself! It did have a somewhat metalic (or plastic) shine to it. This thing then moved back up to about 1000 ft. and proceeded on its course to the southwest. The oddest thing that occured to me as I tried to give myself an honest evaluation as to its make-up was that it appeared to be TRYING to look like a plastic bag! As this thing began to move away I tried to hurry to a better spot so I could keep it in sight, and as I watched it changed to a classic saucer shape and a little further on to a delta wing shape. Just amazing! It then was momentarily obscured by some trees, and I lost sight of it. I only wish I had my camera. |
A two-story high object over Massachussetts is described as gray, silent and a long box shape.
| MA, March 13, 2009 - Grey, silent long box shape with 2 stories of what looks like colorless window side by side. Bottom was grey with black lines. | |
I was out in the early morning walking my dog. It was 5:45. I was looking east, up my street when I looked up and saw this long grey box shape coming toward me in the sky.It was coming at me from over the houses rather then the street. At first I thought it was a plane but then I relized it was not. It was very silent with out ANY noise. As it came to be right above me, I, becoming nervous and kinda scared, moved to my porch and looked up. The bottom was grey, with what looked like black lines on it. It looked like it was 2 stories high, and by that I mean it had 2 stories. It had lines on top and bottom that made it look like it had windows, but with no lights. As it moved on I noticed the only lights I could see .It had three lights. 2 red ones , one on each side, and one white, in the middle. As it came over the houses, it curved and moved over the street and out toward the north. From the time I first saw it to the moment it glided over me and on out of sight was about 10 minutes. If you would like to contact me I have given my name and email address. Thank you. |
