Nineteen new UFO investigation cases have been identified as part of the Mutual UFO Network's (MUFON) Star Impact Project (SIP) - an organized strike team that moves investigators and scientists to the scene rapidly.

PART ONE

MUFON releases details of these cases in their MUFON UFO Journal, a monthly subscriber-based publication now edited by Larry Rimbert Jr. The latest cases are detailed in the September and the combined October/November issue.

A MUFON dispatch team monitors incoming UFO reports nationwide on a 24-hour basis and immediately deploys teams to the scene. The SIP program is funded by Bigelow Aerospace Advanced Space Studies.

As each MUFON case is reviewed, they are categorized as a CAT1, CAT2 OR CAT3. In CAT1 cases, the witness sees a strange or unidentified light(s) or object(s) in the sky. In CAT2 cases, the object has landed on the ground or somehow affected the immediate physical environment. In CAT3 cases, one or more events occurs, including: observations of beings or entities, interaction with nonhuman entities, episodes of missing time, wounds or trauma to the body of unknown origin, witness is taken onboard a craft, telepathic communication, out of body experience, or an encounter with an unknown animal.

The following is an overview of the first 10 cases - those reported in July - with links to read the original reports from the MUFON witness reporting database. You may subscribe to the MUFON Journal at this link. It's a bargain at $45 and you can read about these cases before I do. Excellent holiday gift too. Part 2 and the remaining 9 cases will appear in this space tomorrow.

JULY 2009 CASES

MN, July 27, 2009 - 'Credible Eyewitness' Reported 'Just Before 2 PM' 'Sizeable Object Landing' 'Into Sylvan Lake'. MUFON Case # 18646.

CAT 2: This was a case where a woman reported a UFO had crashed into a lake. MUFON Investigator Richard Webb reports there was no evidence to support the idea that anything crashed into Sylvan Lake, Minnesota.

VA, August 23, 2009 - 3 Metal Triangles in Dulles Flightline. MUFON Case # 18855.

CAT 2: This Virginia case involved two witnesses who reported seeing three black triangles hovering above a home they were working on. The crafts were described as "dark metal, about the size of mid-size sedans." The objects were below cloud level and seemed to be "playfully" moving in circular, clock-wise formations - but smoothly and evenly paced. Investigator: Norman Gagnon.

MI, July 7, 2009 - Long oval with 25 lights.MUFON Case # 17919.

CAT 2: Investigator Patty Donahue reviewed this case - what looked very promising from the original report of this Howell, Michigan case - a large object that was described with multiple blinking lights. The case is now marked as "insufficient data."

CA, July 5, 2009 - Approx 30 ft wide, 20 ft tall, cone shaped, seven portholes illuminated from within, unknown color. MUFON Case # 17960.

CAT 2: This particular case is one of my favorites from 2009 - where four witnesses are involved in three events - where basically they see a cone-shaped object close enough to detect portholes and an illuminated interior. Deployed on July 20 and under investigation by Ruben Uriarte and Chuck Fetterman, they say the object which either landed or came close to touching down on this California ranch was approximately 30 feet wide and 20 feet tall and of an unknown color. Case is marked pending and we hope to hear more about this one in the future. Read my original story on this, 30 foot cone-shaped object lands on California ranch.

OH, MUFON Case # 17997.

CAT 3: This Thornville, Ohio, case isn't showing up in the MUFON case database for me - an update soon as I suspect I have either the event date or the case number wrong. A "female executive" reports seeing a human-like being 30 feet away in a neighbor's yard taking 15 to 20 steps before "disappearing into nothing." Case is under investigation by Connie McNichols and is "pending." More later.

OR, July 17, 2009 - We see them every night...MUFON Case # 18156.

CAT 3: A Sheerwood, Oregon, case under investigation by Devlin Rugne with State Coordinator Tom Bowden where a family claims seeing "spinners" in the night sky at their home every night for three months. They claim the objects appear to the naked eye as very bright stars, but with binoculars, "you can see the underside of the crafts spinning." Case disposition now is "unknown - other."

AZ, July 18, 2009 - woke up to glowing light in bedroom with all lights off/bleeding upon waking up. MUFON Case # 18187.

CAT 3: A Scottsdale, Arizona, case with Christine Dickey investigating and George Parks as the state coordinator. A witness wakes up to bedroom lights going off and on and a "glowing bluish light" in the room - and bleeding at the naval. Case disposition now is "unknown - other."

CA, June 27, 2009 - FLYING OVER SAN JOSE,CALF. 10:00PM -5:30AM. MUFON Case # 18370.

CAT 3: This is a case I believe I read originally in the MUFON system and passed on - but I admire them for going out to investigate. The story involved a witness seeing bright lights overhead, then an object just 20 feet over their patio stopping, and four "human-like" people jumping off onto the patio. Investigator was Chuck Fetterman and Steve Reichmuth with Steve also the state coordinator. They have marked this sighting an IFO - where the "investigator observed airplanes that witness claimed were UFOs."

CN, July 6, 2009 -  Large Triagle 1mile each side emitting electrical discharges red glow. MUFON Case # 18254.

This New London case is being investigated by Ken Pfeifer with Steve Firmani as the state coordinator. A large triangle-shaped UFO that was described as one mile on each side with a "deep red glow coming from the bottom center" and where the witnesses felt an electrical field around them. Case status is pending.

NE, July 23, 2009 - A pulsating self illuminated light about the size of a dinner platter was observed floating stationary about 4' above a city street. MUFON Case # 18386.

This very interesting case is now marked "unknown - other" - a term where MUFON has thoroughly investigated and cannot yield an ending to the story - but where the story facts appear to be credible. The basic story involves an elderly couple who witness a "pulsating self-illuminated light about the size of a dinner platter about 4 feet above a city street." Police are called and the policeman also witnesses the event. I originally wrote about this story in, 'Dinner platter' size UFO hovers 4 feet off ground in Fairbury, Nebraska. I spoke directly with the reporting couple, Mr. and Mrs. Aken, of Fairbury, and both report seeing this object floating right out in the middle of the street that runs in front of their home. They also report that a local policeman pulled up in his cruiser, observed the object, then came inside - watched it out the window with them - saying only to Mr. Aken, "I think we both know what this is" - then got into his cruiser and left while the object was still in the street. I also spoke with two diferent law enforcement personnel in the town, but not to the investigating officer. The police are apparently saying in this case that nothing happened - directing any source of light to a broken street sign not anywhere near the incident. And the couple is firmly standing by their story.

Stop back tomorrow for PART TWO - the next nine cases.
