Last night Tim Tebow may have helped change my mind about college and professional sports. Tim Tebow, the Florida QB is the person who has made that change possible. During the BCS national championship game, he sported the Bible verse "John 3:16 in white on his eye black. What an inspiration this young man can be to young people today.
John 3:16 (KJV) - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Now there's a message you don't hear much in the secular world.
Now some of you may know that I'm not a Football fan. Really not a fan of any sport aside from fishing, and lets face it fishing is really a laid back sport when compared to Football. But the reason for this article is because in Tim Tebow, I have found a bright spot in a "sometimes" very dark place. I have been known to say that college and professional sports are two of the causes that some of our kids go bad. 'Sometimes' kids see important or popular people doing things they ought not do, and young minds can easily be swayed. Now don't go off on me here, I certainly don't mean every kid and I certainly don't mean every team, player or coach. But because of some of the things that have occurred in the last 20 years in these sports, I really have felt that kids would sometimes be better off if they didn't have these athlete's as someone who they look up to.
Turns out that "John 3:16" was the hottest "Google" search term used during the game and even after the game into today, "John 3:16" was high in the rankings.
But because of Tim Tebow perhaps other Christian athlete's will begin doing similar things.
Thanks for sending our youth the right signal Tim Tebow!
