Welcome to the 34th installment of the Carnival of Maryland. It is my pleasure to host the carnival. For those not familiar with the carnival, every other Sunday one member of the Maryland Blogger Alliance (MBA) hosts the carnival, which features writing from blogs throughout Maryland.

Thanks for all the great submissions.

I urge MBA members to check out Examiner.com’s great roster of Examiners. I hope that hosting the carnival here at Examiner.com that MBA writers get more exposure.

For more information about the difference between bloggers and Examiners click here to listen to our wonderful Content Editor, Anne Henslee explain to the WCBM morning show what Examiners do.

Who knows maybe you could be an Examiner too!

Ok on with the Carnival!

Leading off I will stay with the Examiner/MBA “alliance” theme of the day.  My friend Kevin Dayhoff from Westminster, profiles Townhall.com columnist Mary Katherine Ham, who will be the online editor for the Washington Examiner’s forthcoming website.

Politics

My Red Maryland colleague Brian Griffiths conducted a great interview with new Maryland GOP Executive Director Justin Ready. Breaking: Brian has some welcome news for Orioles fans and connoisseurs of throwback jerseys.

MBA founder Atilla, over at Pillage Idiot comments on the see-saw state of capital punishment in Maryland.

Joyce Dowling of Creating a Jubilee County, a blog about my old stomping grounds in PG County, looks at Maryland politicos and their possible influence on the Democratic presidential nomination.

Dave Wissing at the Hedgehog Report regales us with the tale of a Howard County librarian’s reaction to his request for Jonah Goldberg’s new book Liberal Fascism. I touched on Jonah’s book here a few weeks back.
The aptly named Leviathan Montgomery elucidates on the farce that is the MoCo County Council’s symbolic politics of global warming.

Finishing up on the global warming theme, another Red Maryland colleague, Eastern Shore blogger Michael Swartz, of Monoblogue takes his fellow members of the American Institute of Architects to task over their climate alarmism.

Culture etc…

Chestertown’s Clarke Bjorke of Clark’s Picks gives us a history lesson about Jazz with the story of Jelly Roll Morton and the Hesitation Blues.

You can’t talk about Maryland culture without mentioning crabs. The Ridger from Greenbelt, talks about faith-based crabbing on the Eastern Shore.
The DC Traveler provides us with a trip down nostalgia lane back to our childhood with a look back at the late great Jim Henson. Henson, a Maryland native and University of Maryland graduate is the creator of the Muppets and Sesame Street.

Kathleen at What’s New in Maryland marvels at our new official state cake. The cake itself may be tasty, but the story behind the cake’s official designation is rather distasteful

Stan Modjesky at Blogger 1947 mixes it up with some overzealous dog lovers. Taps at a pet cemetery?

Fine artists and photographers grace the MBA’s roster.

My favorite artist C Dowd welcomes you to Baltimore, Hon. Here’s why he’s my favorite artist.

The aforementioned The Ridger has some great photos of geese and weekend sunrises

Baltimore’s Soccer Dad gives us a glimpse of local flora.
