Cool family events this summer in... Wheat Ridge
POSTED July 3, 10:27 AM
The city of Wheat Ridge has 8,313 families residing in the city, with over a quarter of all residents having kids under 18.  With all these kids - there has a ton of stuff to see and do.

1) The Wheat Ridge Recreation Center is a 70,000 square foot public recreation facility.  No membership is required and our facility is open to both residents of Wheat Ridge and non-residents.  They have leisure pool, lap pool, steam room, sauna & whirlpool, a game room, racquetball courts and even a climbing wall!  They are open from early in the morning, to pretty late at night -  located at 4005 Kipling Street.

2) The Farmers’ Market will take place every  Thursday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. through October 30. The Market will be located at 4252 Wadsworth Blvd. in front of the Ross’ Dress for Less.  This is a great way to start your kids off eating healthy, and also learning about everything from supporting local farmers to nutrition.
“The City with the support of LiveWell Wheat Ridge is partnering with the Denver Farmers’ Market (DFM) to help not only to promote the Farmer’s Market, but also to educate consumers on the importance of buying locally grown fruits and vegetables, while helping to create an atmosphere of healthy eating and active living,” said Ryan Stachelski, Economic Development Specialist.

3) Wheat Ridge grew its fame through the growing of carnations.  It was a farming community that supported Denver and nearby mining communities, and became the largest producer of carnations worldwide until the mid-20th century.  They celebrate this fact with their annual Carnation Festival.  Filled with fun from teen nights, parades and even a fireworks show, come August 14th - August 16th, Wheat ridge is the place to be.

4) The Wheat Ridge Library has tons of stuff for kids to do all summer long.  From their summer reading program to arts and crafts event to storytimes, Your little ones are bound to be entertained!   Their Story hours here are among the best attended in the Jefferson County Public Library system, have over 6,000 visitors every month and over 36,000 books, music CDs, DVDs, computer CD-ROMs, recorded books, videos and other items. Their address is 5475 W. 32nd Ave. and call 303-235-JCPL (5275) for library hours.
