This time, Team 411 has taken a look at the world that surrounds Twilight's leading lady Kristen Stewart, and they've brought all the need-to-know goods about her mother (and legend in her own right), Jules Mann-Stewart. Take a look into the fascinating life of "MamaStew!" She's clearly a fascinating and accomplished woman who deserves the spotlight, and she's also quite a great mother!

I think by now we’ve established that Team 411 likes Kristen Stewart. We find her original, individual, and altogether admirable. In the face of the world telling her she should act that way, or say this thing, she remains true to herself. Though she may at times be nervous, she is always confident and self-assured. There’s a lot to like about Kristen Stewart, so we’d like to turn the spotlight to a person who has had a big role in making her the young woman we know and love today, her mother, Jules Mann-Stewart.

That’s right, today we celebrate MamaStew.

We heart MamaStew, almost as much as we heart her daughter. We’re all about the Stew’rents in general, but thought we’d shine a little light on the woman who not only raised the Queen of Badness herself, but will be directing her in her next project, prison drama K-11. Mann-Stewart was born in Australia and educated at Sydney University before moving to the United States to work in film production. For thirty years she has been one of the top script supervisors in Hollywood. What does a script supervisor do? She’s the person standing next to the director, making sure the production is running on schedule. She keeps track of what’s supposed to be filmed on any given day, what was actually shot, and makes sure that each take syncs up—you know what, just Google “script supervisor.”

The point is, Mann-Stewart is very good at a job that carries a lot of responsibility. Transitioning to feature film director is a natural step, but she isn’t just directing K-11, she also co-wrote it, along with Jared Kurt. Kristen has often said she enjoys writing and would like to be a writer one day—wonder where she gets it from?

Besides co-writing and directing K-11, Mann-Stewart is also a partner in Seven Star Pictures, a start-up production company specializing in art-house fare, which is responsible for producing K-11. It’s easy to see where Kristen gets her work ethic, as her mother is one of the hardest-working women in Hollywood. On top of her burgeoning career as a director and her involvement with Seven Star, Mann-Stewart also paints. That wide creative streak we see in Kristen is clearly a family trait.

As big as the past year has been for Kristen, it’s also been an exciting one for MamaStew. Seven Star was established, K-11 greenlit, and she’s seen her career take on a new and challenging direction (no pun intended). I think it’s important to note that even as Kristen’s star has risen, the Stew’rents have always maintained their own successful careers. Kristen was never expected to be the breadwinner. So many child stars crash and burn because their families rely on them to support everyone, and that is simply too much pressure for a young child to bear. Kristen was never put in that position. Her parents have been supportive but not forceful, encouraging without pushing. MamaStew is there in the background, watching her daughter on sets and at premieres, clearly proud and excited to see Kristen excel, but never seeking attention for herself.

The moment we became real fans of MamaStew came this past summer as Kristen was stalked through Los Angeles by hordes of ravening zombies paparazzi. Bestie likes to say if it were her daughter under siege, she would have run down a paparazzo in her car, or at least thrown her shoes at them. But with paparazzi literally parked in front of her home on a regular basis, Mann-Stewart did not lash out at them, instead she drew down, closing in around Kristen, making sure she was safe in the middle of the mess. It’s the unique combination of ferocious mama-bear and experienced Hollywood businesswoman that makes Mann-Stewart the woman we like to call MamaStew.

So tip of the cap today to MamaStew, for being such a positive influence on our number-one girlcrush. Kristen wouldn’t be the young woman we admire without her fierce mother.

We’d also like to take a second and mention another member of the KStew Circle of Trust, and that’s Agent Security Blanket. Often identified as Kristen’s manager, John, we love this guy (literally! Bestie has a well-documented crush on him). For the last year he’s been accompanying Kristen, the tall teddy bear in the background, ever-ready to shove his hand in the faces of intrusive paparazzi. Also, he is Bestie’s “Kstew zen”. She feels better for Kristen when he’s around. Agent Security Blanket, we salute you.

Check out Kristen and MamaStew (and their cat) on the set of The Messengers back in 2006.
