The government of the Bahamas has increased security when American, Canadian, Irish and Chinese cruise passengers on a shore excursion were robbed at gunpoint.
The 18 cruise ship passengers from Royal Caribbean's Navigator of the Seas and Disney Cruise Line's Disney Wonder were on a tour called "Segway Off Road Back To Nature' last when the incident occurred over the weekend.
Armed men tied up the Bahamian tour guide who was with one group of the cruise passengers and ordered them to the ground before robbing them of money, passports, cell phones and other valuables. During the robbery a second tour approached the area and were also robbed
Disney Cruise Lines immediately canceled the tour from it's shore excursion list. In a statement issued today, Royal Caribbean said nine of its passengers were in the group and that "We are thankful that none of our guests were injured in this unfortunate event, and (they) will continue to provide them with any support they may need"
The Disney Wonder sails from Port Canaveral and Navigator of the Seas sails from Miami.
No word on leads about who the robbers were or where they came from.
