Completed at a cost of $60 million dollars in June of 2000, the Shark Reef Aqaurium in 2003 became the first, and still only, animal care facility in Nevada to get accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. The total 1.6 million gallons of seawater at the Shark Reef is dispersed among 14 exhibits that hold over 2000 animals, among them rare golden crocodiles and piranha! The walkthrough tunnel exhibits actually are underwater and let you experience a diver's view of the underwater world.
Of course there are sharks. Lots of them. Over 100 sharks represent 15 different species. The slightly less deadly creatures can even be felt up at the touch pool- depending on your individual courage. My wife and son only pretended to be touching the rays. There posing can be viewed in the slide show below. Scaredy cats!
