9:07 am central - One final result. The voters of Maine rejected same-sex marriage, despite support from the state's governor, elected officials, several newspapers and an enormous fundraising advantage.
Altogether, Tuesday's results were resounding victories for Republicans and conservatives. The only disappointment came in NY-23. However, Democrat Bill Owens is a more acceptable House member than the ultra-liberal Dede Scozzafava who ran as a Republican. Also, do not believe the hype that no Democrat has held this seat since the Civil War. This area has voted Democrat more than Republican throughout the past 100 years and Democrat Michael McNulty represented the Congressional district as recently as 1993.
10:55 pm central - Fox News calls NY-23 for Democrat Bill Owens. Thanks, Dede. I can't wait to see your reward from the Obama White House.
10:54 pm central - He ran unopposed, but I am glad to see David Lindeman win a City Council seat in Johnston tonight. David is a quality individual and did a great job serving as a precinct captain for Fred Thompson.
10:45 pm central - It looks like a tight race in Maine, but opponents of gay marriage have the edge right now. Unlike Iowa, the people of Maine actually are allowed to vote on the issue.
10:36 pm central - It might not be over for Hoffman. Erick Erickson over at Red State believes Owens' votes are already in and the districts likely to favor Hoffman have yet to be counted.
9:53 pm central - It is looking like Hoffman will not be able to pull it out in NY-23. The liberal media will spin this as a rebuke of conservatives. It is not. Scozzafava is more liberal than Democrat Bill Owens. The Republican Party blew this one. BIg time.
9:39 pm central - The NY-23 Congressional race is not looking so good right now for Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman. He trails Democrat Bill Owens 50-45 with 41 percent of the precincts reporting.
9:18 pm central - Fox News, CBS and several other outlets have also called the race for Republican Chris Christie in New Jersey. This is a huge rebuke for President Obama and Joe Biden. They both campaigned heavily for the Democrat incumbent.
9:10 pm - It's over! The Associated Press just called it a victory for Republican Chris Christie in New Jersey. Fox News has not called it for Christie yet.
9:00 pm - Results are all pretty much finalized in all the Des Moines area races, which you can see by clicking here. It looks like the will be a run-off in the city council races for Des Moines Ward 1 and the At-Large races. No candidate received more than 50 percent of the votes.
8:51 pm - Real Clear Politics does not believe there are enough votes out there for Corzine to pull it out. It appears the Republicans will turn this very blue state red.
8:47 pm central - It is looking more and more like Chris Christie will win this race. He is up 12 points with 63 percent of the precincts reporting.
8:30 pm central - The numbers are tightening in the New Jersey gubernatorial race. Republican Chris Christie still maintains the lead over Democrat incumbent Jon Corzine. However, the numbers are tightening. Christie held a 10 point early advantage, but with 44 percent of the precincts reporting, Christie now leads 49-44.
CNN's exit polls showed very good news for Christie. He garned 58 percent of the votes from independents. Polls leading up to the race called this one a toss-up. I will continue to update as the numbers roll in.
Meanwhile, in Virginia, Fox News declared Republican Bob McDonnell the winner of the gubernatorial race right as the polls closed. It looks like he will defeat Democrat Creigh Deeds in a landslide. Deeds has conceded and McDonnell just gave his acceptance speech.
Republicans also won the Lt. Governor and Attorney General races, making it a clean sweep. Virginia has historically been a red state, but that switched to the Democrats in recent years. The pendulum swung back toward Republicans today. The pendulum swung back toward Republicans today.
New York's District 23 congressional race will also be very interesting, with all eyes on Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman, who overtook the liberal Republican candidate Dede Scozzafava. She bitterly turned her back on the party that gave her $900,000 and endorsed the Democrat.
A Republican sweep would signal a huge victory for Republicans, and a rebuke of the liberal policies of Barack Obama. Check back later for results.
