Yeah, yeah, I know. U2 has taken the No. 1 spot from Taylor Swift with their new album, “No Line on the Horizon.”
Let’s take a look at the rest of the charts.
U2 barely nosed out Taylor. She is No. 2 on the Top 200 chart.
On the Billboard Top 100 singles chart, she is No. 9 with “Love Story.”
She is No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 airplay chart with the same song.
She is also No. 9 on the Billboard Pop 100 for “Love Story” and No. 9 on the Pop 100 airplay list.
She is No. 8 on the Mainstream Top 40 chart.
She is No. 3 on the Hot Adult 40 chart.
She is No. 2 on the Hot Adult Contemporary chart.
Moving over to the country charts, her “White Horse” single actually went up a notch, from No. 7 to No. 6.
Taylor’s “Fearless” album is still the No. 1 country release; and her debut album moved this week from No. 6 to No. 5. It has been on the Billboard country album chart for 124 weeks.
This is not to take anything away from U2, one of the greatest bands in the history of music. The instrumental intro to “The Joshua Tree” remains the greatest album intro in the history of rock and roll, in my opinion.
But . . . who is the boss, across the board?
Taylor Swift.
