Selena Gomez is giving up her part as Alex Russo in “Wizards of Waverly Place.”

Selena primarily has done television work. In addition to Wizards, she appeared early on as Mikayla in “Hannah Montana.”

She reportedly is giving up television entirely to go to college and work in movies.

Her only previous movie work was as a bit player in “Spy Kids 3: Game Over.”

She is scheduled to appear in “Ramona and Beezus.” Based on children’s books written by Nick Pustay, Selena reportedly plans to play Beezus.

Selena turns 17 on July 22.
