It is no secret that every fashion-lover is wondering what Michelle Obama will be wear for the Inaugural ball.  In Washington, DC, the fashion question is "what effect will Michelle Obama have on the historically conservative DC style?"

Michelle O definitely hit her fashion stride during the campaign season.  Thanks to Maria Pinto and enterprising boutiques, J.Crew and other off-the-rack entities, Mrs O. single-handedly turned affordable fashion into must-have fashion.  How many times did we walk by White House Black Market and not give that "dress" a second look.  Michelle O wears it to the view and "poof" - sold out!

With her drool-worthy arms, supermodel height and palpable self-confidence, Michelle Obama will leave her mark on fashion in the district.  We are going to see boutiques selling out of everything that resembles something Michelle O will wear.  It's only a matter of time before we see chicas all over the district with the Michelle O haircut.  Move over movie stars,  models and wannabes, it's all about the Obamas.

With the dismal state of the economy, the war in Iraq and numerous other issues that President-elect Obama has to contend with, folks are searching for an escape -if it takes Michelle O's belt or boots or color of her dress to provide that distraction or escape, then so be it.  It could be worse!!  My prediction is that DC fashion will slowly evolve to embace sleeker silouhettes and rich hues over stiff suits and starched shirts.
