Friday, I talked about the record increase in gun sales which has lead to financial advisers recommending investing in companies manufacturing firearms and firearms accessories. There are many factors contributing to these record sales, including current gun owners stocking up on guns and ammunition out of fears of shortages or new gun bans.
However, a significant portion of those sales are going to new gun owners, people who previously hadn't given much thought to owning a gun. The continuing decline of the economy leads not only to fears that desperation will cause crime levels to increase, but also to a decrease in police protection from financially strapped cities and towns.
Take Toledo, for example... a town whose politicians and media outlets have long railed against gun rights. Friday, the latest layoffs saw 75 police officers lose their jobs, with the possibility of more on the way. More and more people are starting to realize what many gun owners have known for years, that you're most likely have nobody to rely on but yourself if faced with a violent criminal hell bent on taking what you own. It is for that reason that gun shops like Toledo area Clelands are reporting not only an increase in sales of guns and ammunition, but that more people are taking training classes as well.
All of this does not bode well for anti-gun politicians. It is much easier to take rights away that the People feel no particular inclination to protect. Now, though, American citizens are waking up to the fact that the Second Amendment and the gun rights it protects are not antiquated and polls are reporting more support for protecting gun rights than for more gun control.
Government "protection" has been revealed to be what it always was, a facade intended to lull citizens to sleep while power is acumulated by those who wish to reign over us. Our gun rights, indeed all of our rights, are more important now than they've been in a long time.
Saturday, a groups of Ohioans For Concealed Carry members met at the Rochester Rod and Gun Club in Northern Ohio for the Fifth Annual Fun 'n Gun fundraiser. From the OFCC website:
Despite the poor economy, high ammunition prices, and poor ammunition availability, there was still a great turn out. The weather was great, and the fine folks from Rochester Rod & Gun club set up some fun and challenging stages for the participants to shoot.
Some of these stages were designed to simulate real-life scenarios a person might face in a real life self defense situation. Many shooters commented that they got to practice skills not always permitted at gun ranges, such as drawing from the holster and shooting on the move.
Everyone I talked to said they had a great time, and not only will the thousands of dollars raised go towards the fight to keep everyone's gun rights safe, but they also learned a lot and got to practice skills not often used at most ranges.
See the slideshow for pics from the event and I've posted a couple of videos below. Visit the OFCC website to see more pictures and video!
