The 2010 Vancouver Olympics countdown clock is quickly ticking. Only a hundred days remain before the Opening Ceremonies kick-off on February 12.
Tens of thousands of Olympic athletes, coaches, officials, organizers, broadcasters, and sponsor staff have been busily preparing for the pinnacle of their lives.
Ever since the Vancouver won the right to host these Games in 2003, the Vancouver Olympic Committee (VANOC), the cosmopolitan city, the British Columbia province, and the whole of Canada have been busy… and stressed.
The Vancouver Olympics torch relay, which began its trek through Canada on October 30, drives the energy among the 12,000 torchbearers, and the VANOC staff who are finalizing transportation, security, retailing, and competition plans.
Canada, who has hosted two other Olympics in Calgary and Montreal, looks ahead to hosting another exciting and rewarding Games. All the while, promoting its “Own the Podium” initiative to propel its athletes to the medals.
And the athletes, many newcomers to international competition and many seasoned veterans, have long flagged their training and competition calendars for this 16-day mega-event.
Dreams of Olympic glory have guided their every skate, slide, and flip in their multi-year quest for the gold. Hundreds of hours in the gym, on practice rinks or slopes, and in grueling World Cup events are now paying-off, as these athletes race down the homestretch.
Which brings us to the millions of Winter Olympic fans – an impatient lot eager to witness the pageantry and drama from their cozy living rooms, or onsite during planned vacations. In the ramp-up to these Games, they now root for their country men and women who are now striving to earn the right to compete at the Vancouver Olympics.
These Winter Games hold the promise of being the most spectacular of all. Keeping following the latest news, inside scoops, and untold stories right here on Examiner.com.
