A shopping hot spot for many of America’s working class for years before and after the 1968 riots, H Street in northeast is a historical landmark that many residents aren't aware of. The organization H Street Main Street wants to acknowledge the legacy and heritage of this community undergoing urban renewal. The hope is to capture the stories behind the cultural and historical assets of the one-and-a-half mile commercial corridor that give the street many of it’s unique character and traditions from the 1900’sand beyond.

Input from individuals in the community is being sought to develop a time line and tapestry of influential people, places, businesses and events in and around H Street Northeast. Organizers are also in need of volunteers- writers, researchers, interviewers, and photographers.

And informational took place this past weekend but you can still get involved by contacting T. Isler for additional information about sponsorship and other details at (202) 250-0466 or harvestpotluck@gmail.com.

This project is sponsored in part by H Street Main Street, the DC Humanities Council and the Capitol Hill Community Foundation.
