Well we know that the weekend is not for beachgoers at the shore so here are suggestions for some great things to do in the towns of Point Pleasant Beach and Lavallette.
Even in a mild hurricane, storm watching is exciting. Go to the Manasquan Inlet, next to the Coast Guard Station on inlet Drive, and watch the waves carsh onto the jetties, brought to you by Danny the Hurricane. It's always a thrill, but could be crowded as this is a favorite thing to do, especially in storm conditions of whatever degree.
If you are a vacationing family, with disappointed kids---no beach-- wa--wa-- they will love Jenkinson's Aquarium on the boardwalk, www.jenkinsons.com It is indoors, educational and fun, with penguins, dolphins and a host of sea creatures, There is parking lot on Ocean Avenue which is not free.
Another family activity could be a short trip down Route 35 South to the town of Lavallette to The Music Man Singing Ice Cream Shoppe where there are shows every night from 6PM to midnight and the show is free if you order a sundae. Watch the video here: www.njmusicman.com.
And finally, if you're looking for an outdoor bar when the rain stops, try the Patio Bar. www.patiobarnj.com , Long a favorite of locals, it is formally known as Jack Baker's Wharfside Patio Bar, and it's tucked behind the Wharfside Restaurant on Channel Drive, overlooking the Manasquan River, with boat access. Kids are welcome. Live bands Saturday August 29th are: Acoustic X, 1-5 PM and The Amused at night. Sunday's bands are the Mark Burg Duo, 1-5 PM and NJ Party Band at night. There is free parking and never a cover.
And remember that September is the best month of all at the beach.
