She is flamboyant, loud, slightly annoying, and musically inept. Ellen DeGeneres announced on her talk show last week that she will be replacing the renowned Paula Abdul on American Idol. Will the popular singing competition be better now that DeGeneres is slotted as the new judge? 37-percent of Americans think so.
A new Rasmussen poll reports that among the avid American Idol watchers, 56-percent say the show will improve with her appearance; where as, 28-percent think the show will now be worse. The poll also reports that more women (57%) than men (40%) favor DeGeneres.
"Hopefully, I'm the people's point of view because I'm just like you. I sit at home and I watch it, and I don't have that technical ... I'm not looking at it in a critical way from the producer's mind. I'm looking at it as a person who is going to buy the music and is going to relate to that person,” DeGeneres said on her talk show.
This will not be DeGeneres’ first time in the reality show spotlight. She appeared as a guest judge on “So You Think You Can Dance.” She was also the co-host of the 2007 “Idol Gives Back” program. DeGeneres made it clear to her fans she was not abandoning her “day job” but was taking on a “night job” as well.
What do you think about American Idol’s new judge? Do you think the show will be better or worse now that Ellen is involved?
