World class music will fill the White House today. The Obama administration, continuing to demonstrate its commitment to the arts, is slated to host the fourth concert in the White House Music Series. Recognizing the need to support art education among young Americans, the Frirst Lady launched this series as a tribute to the musical arts. As part of this initiative, top high school students have been invited to join master musicians to fine-tune their craft.
Two local students from the Baltimore School for the Arts will be among the 120 elite high school muscians invited by the First Lady to perform in today's workshop and concert. Nana Adjeiwaa-Manu, a sophomore specializing in the violin and cello, and David Kalwa, a classical guitarist in his senior year, will be traveling to Washington, D.C. to participate.
Baltimore is home to top talent in the performing arts. Much of this local talent is developed at the Baltimore School for the Arts. Throughout the year Baltimorians can attend a wide selection of concerts, dance, and theater events at the BSA. This November students will be performing Wilder Ones, four one-act plays by Thornton Wilder. Enjoy the schools performance of the Nutcracker ballet this December. Finally, BSA dancers will perform with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra during the annual Holiday Spectacular. Check out a full list of BSA events which are open to the public.
