Last night I watched the 60 Minutes interview with Andre Agassi and Katie Couric where he admitted that he has always hated tennis. This is one of the best tennis players of all time who has broken multiple records and inspired millions of people to play the game. And he hated every day of it.

I have so much respect for him taking a stand and being honest with how he feels. And for showing the world that just because you are talented at something does not mean that is the work you should be doing. As I say to a lot of my clients, I'm good at cleaning my house but that doesn't mean I want to be a house cleaner. In my past jobs, I was successful and very good at what I did but I hated every day of it. And once I stepped back to realize that I could be good at other things as well and actually like them, I made the change.

This is what has happened with Andre Agassi. He has built a charter school where he is helping to educate kids and send them to college. He dropped out of school in the 9th grade (his father's recommendation) to go pro and never got a high school education. As he said in the show last night, "I am finally doing my life's work."

I want to personally commend Andre for being brave enough to admit to hating tennis. And I am so much more inspired by him today than I was when he was breaking tennis records. I hope that people will take it as a nudge in their own life that it is okay to not like something. That whatever your experience is, is what it is. You can try to talk yourself into liking something but at the end of the day we have to be confident in our instincts and our decisions and follow our true life's work.
