How do you sum up one of the greatest drummers in rock 'n' roll on his birthday in a few tidy sentences?
You don't.
Ringo Starr, aka Richard Starkey, MBE, has been a rock steady force in the Beatles since day one. The reasons John Lennon, George Harrison and Paul McCartney picked Ringo have been debated through the years, but it's become clear that he's been a most valuable player for the Fab Four.
One of the great things about Ringo has been he always been more than the guy keeping the beat. HIs unique way of instilling extra touches in Beatle songs made his work stand out.
And Ringo the person is also quite unique. Forget the tabloid stuff. Even back in '64, when the multitude of rings was his trademark, Ringo wasn't just some other guy.
The best and most important part is that if you ask his fellow drummers, Ringo has the full respect of his peers for his work. That's really the most imporant thing of all.
So happy birthday, Ringo.
And we'll give something back to you -- "peace and love."
