Excuse us if we depart from the norm here for a minute. Thursday was an awful day. Oh, we remember the day Kennedy (both of them, actually) was shot. We remember the day John Lennon died. We remember when Elvis Presley passed away. Thursday was a day like those. Except we lost two major pop icons. Rest in peace, Michael and Farrah.

Glad to see that the McCartney presales in Boston and Atlanta went so smoothly, especially after the frustrations in New York.

And we heartily recommend you download the Yim Yames cover of "Behind That Locked Door." It's a great tribute to George Harrison.

He wasn't as well known as Michael Jackson, but another rock legend has died. It's Sky Saxon of the '60s garage band group the Seeds, reports the Associated Press. He was in his '60s. The Seeds had a hit with the song "Pushin' Too Hard."

A UK woman who recently sold a letter to her from George Harrison may have lost or tossed other memorabilia from the Beatles worth a fortune, reports the Salisbury Journal. Lynn Smith, now 63, discovered a box she thought she had put a three-page letter from Harrison and other memorabilia in. She only found the one letter.

The UK Guardian has a slideshow of the exhibit "Beatles to Bowie: Swinging '60s at the National Portrait Gallery."

Julian Lennon, on his blog, posted his mother Cynthia Lennon's speech at the White Feather exhibit opening.

Finally, Pete Best is on an Upper Deck football card. Actually, four of them. You think we're joking? It's here. (Thanks to Shaun Weiss.)
