Paul McCartney, Yoko Ono and Julian Lennon have called
for the release of Myanmar's pro-democracy leader Aung San
Suu Kyi, shown in this photo in 1995 with then-U.S. Secretary
of State Madeleine Albright at her home in Yangon. Kyi's 64th
birthday was Friday. (AP Photo/Aye Aye Win)

We got word Friday afternoon that there will be an opening act at the McCartney Citi Field  shows, which likely explains the 6:30 start for those shows. There's been no word either way on whether will be an opening act at FedEx Field Aug. 1 or at Halifax.

What we posted Friday:

A reminder that we have some special interview columns coming up. The first will go up within the next couple of days.

Ali Akbar Khan, Ravi Shankar's sarod player at the Concert for Bangladesh, has died at age 87, reports the Washington Post. In an interview with Reuters, he was critical of the concert, saying, "That was not music but I'd say a war of music." He also said he put toilet paper in his ears to block the noise, according to the Post.

Paul McCartney, Yoko Ono and Julian Lennon are among the celebrities who have added comments (called "64 Words") to a website calling for the release of Myunmar's imprisoned democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi on her 64th birthday. Julian blogged about it Friday.

Paul McCartney:

Aung San Suu Kyi is an inspiration to her country and the rest of the world. I truly admire her infallible resolve and her determination to stand up for what she believes in. It is vital that Aung San Suu Kyi is released so that she can govern the people who elected her and give Burma back the freedom we all take for granted.

Yoko Ono:

Your heart beats with my heart. My eyes see what you see. My belief is your belief. And my life is connected to thousands of universes, as is yours. Every twinkle of the star must travel billions of years to be seen by us. But our minds do not have to travel at all to be seen by each other. Because we are altogether.

Julian Lennon:

My Prayers are with you on this, your Birthday, & Everyday. I am with you in Spirit & Pray that you are released swiftly & Safely.

If you have not seen the pictures from the "White Feather: The Spirit of Lennon" exhibit that we posted Thursday, we recommend you take a look. They are really unique.

From Timothy Smith:

Steve,

I hope you will be doing an update column about how ridiculously shortsupplied "Let It Roll" seems to be in retailers. Best Buy featured it last Sunday in its weekly insert, but as of Tuesday afternoon, three stores in my area did not even have a copy, just an empty display rack.

I have read about people having the same problem elsewhere, including NYC. And then there's Wal-Mart, which has it in "limited stores." Can anyone get some answers here? The whole point of this release is to get more-casual fans interested in George's music. How can that happen if the actual CD isn't in those kinds of stores (Wal-Mart, Target, etc.)?

Please put some pressure on Capitol-EMI about this. I would hate to see this album not chart well because the stiffs didn't put out the product!

The answer is the same for all as it was for Walmart. They're getting it as they can. Maybe it's better to go online.

This Sunday's edition of "Chris Carter's 'Breakfast With the Beatles'" on Sirius 25/XM 59 will feature a playlist of fast tempo songs for a Beatle dance party. Special guest will be Kim Fowley, who introduced the Plastic Ono Band in the Toronto performance that makes up "John Lennon & The Plastic Ono Band: Live in Toronto '69" coming out on Shout Factory next week.

Marie Koenig, LA Tea Examiner, has a post on some tea-dyed Beatles shirts.
