"The Beatles: Rock Band" was just about all the news today. If you missed it, Paul and Ringo, along with Olivia Harrison and Yoko Ono, all made an appearance at the E3 gamer's convention in Los Angeles Monday to kick off the public introduction to the game. “The game is good, the graphics are good, and we look great,” Rolling Stone quoted Ringo Starr. Above is the introductory video from the Microsoft press conference. It reminds us of a modern version of "Yellow Submarine." And you can see the full trailer for the game here. At the least, no matter how you feel about the game, the trailer looks pretty amazing.
(Here's a link to a video clip from the NBC Nightly News on the story. Thanks to Patti Murawski.)
Monday was the 42nd anniversary of the release of "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" in the UK. For those of you old enough to remember that day, compare that and what happened on Monday. They're still pushing the envelope, aren't they? It's fab and all those other pimply hyperboles, isn't it?
We covered it all extensively. These links were from our coverage on Monday, starting with the most recent first. You'll find pictures, the promised partial setlist, videos, all sorts of details. There's a lot there:
In addition to the coverage above, we were interviewed by Bertone's Beatle Bonanza about the day's events.
One more thought: The appearance of the four members of the Beatles brain trust shows how staunchly they're behind this game. We'll bet the cynics among us are wondering if the same kind of support will come for the remasters. Well, we are, anyway.
In other news:
From Paul McCartney's website: "Tickets for Paul's forthcoming show in Halifax, Nova Scotia on Saturday July 11th are on sale now. You can get them from www.ticketatlantic.com or by phone (+1) 902-451-1221.
Former Wings guitarist Laurence Juber will perform in concert 8 p.m. June 13 at Boulevard Music, 4316 Sepulveda Blvd.
Culver City. We've seen Laurence in concert several times both at Beatle conventions and away from them and he is a wonderful guitarist to see and hear. Tickets are $17.50 and are available by calling (310) 398-2583 or at www.boulevardmusic.com.
The playlist for Chris Carter's "Breakfast for the Beatles" on KLOS-FM on Sunday included "Don't Bother Me," "Can't Buy Me Love," "Help!," "Wait," "Got to Get You Into My Life" and the entire "Pepper" album, some in mono.
Here are some great old pics of the four Fabs from the '70s. (Thanks to Barbara Pazmino.)
Maybe not necessarily for the 40th anniversary of "Give Peace a Chance," but this Twitter message came from Yoko Ono on Monday: "Don't focus your attention on the War industry people. They will join us in the end. It's an easier life not to get maimed or killed."
