The Beatles' landing in America was only the beginning.
   (Copyright Apple Corps Ltd.)

It was 45 years ago Feb. 7 that America surrendered to the Fabs. And they still have us.

Could it be that the Beatles, of all people, don't have a lifetime achievement Grammy Award? Dennis Mitchell of  "Dennis Mitchell's Breakfast With the Beatles" wrote and asked us, "A listener informs me that The Beatles are not on the list of artists who have received a Lifetime Achievement Grammy.  I checked the Grammy site and it appears to be true, despite the fact that John, Paul and George Martin have all been so honored, along with The Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, The Doors and a long list of others.  The listener and I now ask openly, 'How can this be?' " Doesn't make sense to us, either. It's not on our list of Beatle Grammys at Abbeyrd's Beatles Page. We sent a note to the Grammys. We'll let you know what we hear back.

Anyone who was thinking the hot Southern California weather was a reason to avoid the Coachella Festival on April 17 when Paul McCartney was headlining now has an alternative. He's booked for the grand opening of the New Joint of the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino two days later. Not that it won't be hot in Vegas, but at least it'll be indoors.

Chris Carter's "Breakfast With the Beatles" on KLOS-FM and Sirius Satellite Radio will celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Beatles' first appearance on "The Ed Sullivan Show" Sunday by playing the audio of the complete Sullivan shows with the Beatles' appearances from 1964-65 and their other appearances alone from 1966-70.

Speaking of which, send your memories of that first Sullivan show to us by email to beatlesexaminer@gmail.com and put SULLIVAN SHOW in the subject. We'd like to feature your memories of the show in an upcoming column. We won't identify you by more than a name (or you can be anonymous) and we will not use your email. Send them to us by Monday, please. They don't have to be long, either.

Wolfgang's Vault, a great place to hear free streaming vintage concerts and audio, is featuring a interview with John & Yoko taped during their second Bed-In for Peace in Montreal in May, 1969. In addition, the Vault is featuring a companion piece on what they're calling the best Beatle Covers in the Vault with songs by Rod Stewart, Bourgeous Tagg, Bonnie Bramlett, the Hotters, James Taylor, Richie Havens, Chicago, Jeff Beck and others.

SF Radio Examiner Brad Kava, my cubicle neighbor when I was at the Mercury News, sent me information for a new website by legendary rock photographer Jim Marshall. Of course, the first picture you see is Marshall's fantastic picture of the Beatles at Candlestick Park. Marshall took some of the most iconic shots of rockers in the '60s. The site has incredible pictures of Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis, Bob Dylan, the Who, Johnny Cash, the Allman Brothers and many others. Looking is cheap. There are some high price tags if you want tto buy prints, though.

Beatlefanclub.nl in the Netherlands will celebrate the 40th anniversary of John Lennon and Yoko Ono's Amsterdam bed-in with a Lennon Memorial Day March 29. The event, in cooperation with the Amsterdam Hilton and ImaQuest, will feature music, lectures, book presentations and movies, plus the chance (with groups chosen by lottery) to see the room where the bed-in was held.
