Beatle news briefs: London calling?
Rumor has it that Paul McCartney will be playing
Hard Rock Calling in London June 27.
The Daily Star is the source of this, already reporting as fact what they originally reported as rumor that Bruce Springsteen would be playing there
"Beatles Universe," which airs at 9 p.m. ET Sunday on The Rock, 94.9 and www.therock.fm will feature Beatle Rarities, including the original promo version of Ringo Starr's "Drift Away" (with Steve Tyler, not Tom Petty as on the commercial release) and Harry Nilsson's "How Long Can Disco On" co-written by Ringo and Nilsson. Great title that one. Harry, you left us way too soon.
Paul is on TMZ.com, brushing off a reporter. TMZ is showing a bit of outrage over the clip, but it sounds to us like he was joking.
The 6th Annual Tribute to George Harrison will take place beginning at 5 p.m. February 14th at Whites of Westport in
Westport, Mass. The line up includes Octopus’s Garden,
Letter B, Beatletracks, the Mockers, British Yankees, Psychedelic Relics, No Reply and Peppertown.
Advance tickets are $12 at Whites of Westport or $15 at the door. For questions, send email to
GHTribute@aol.com. or see the Harrison Tribute page on the Octopus’s Garden site “GHTRIB” at
www.og-rocks.com.
This year's
Abbey Road on the River has added The Norwegian Beatles and Alyona from Moscow, Russia. More info on their website.
The Dave Humphries Band, the Baja Bugs and Tornado Magnet are performing in a free "Concert for Janie" from 2-6 p.m. Saturday at Tia Leos, 5302 Napa St., San Diego. Humphries, a huge Beatles fan, had a guest appearance by Tony Sheridan on a recent album.
Correction on the Uncut magazine with the article about the Beatles and Apple. It'll be the March issue, not February.
