On her Imagine Peace website, Yoko Ono congratulated President Barack Obama on being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

"I am so glad that Obama has won the Nobel Peace Prize. Prizes are given to those in need. ... Obama needs all the encouragement he can get at this point. Let’s all send him the love and trust he could use as his energy to do his share of bettering the world."

The Nobel Nobel Committee awarded the prize to Obama on Oct. 9 -- John Lennon's birthday --  "for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples. The Committee has attached special importance to Obama's vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons," a statement said.

In the post, she also described some of the John Lennon birthday events that took place in Iceland, including the relighting of the Imagine Peace Tower and the opening of the Tower in the Second Life virtual community. She said over 13,500 around the world watched the relighting over the internet.

She also said she and Sean Lennon also sang at a tribute concert for John Lennon while in Iceland.
