First ever Neighborhood Inaugural Ball open to everyone
President elect Barack Obama announced today he will host the first ever Neighborhood Inaugural Ball. Tickets to the event will be free, or at a very low cost, and a portion of tickets will be set aside for District of Columbia residents. The ball will be held at the Convention Center, on the evening of the Inauguration, January 20th.
In addition to the event at the Convention Center, there will also be several interactive elements, so people around the country can participate in the event. "This is an Inauguration for all Americans," President-elect Obama said in a statement released by the Presidential Inaugural Committee. "I wanted to make sure that we had an event that would be open to our new neighborhood here in Washington, D.C., and also neighborhoods across the country. Michelle and I look forward to joining our fellow Americans across the country during this very special event."
The Committee says they plan webcasting to link communities around the country. They plan to have more details about the event, and how to get tickets, soon.
