Armed with one of the best TV ads that I have seen for game, comes FIFA 10. Produced by EA Canada, the title improves upon last year's great installment of the series. With FIFA 10, the added features of 360- degree player control, realistic A.I., and Virtual Pro mode are more than enough to make it a worthy purchase.
Virtual Pro is most likely going to be the fan favorite of FIFA 10. You can create a player, design his ratings to fit yours and even use the EA Sports GameFace feature to put your mug in the game. This feature has worked better in FIFA 10 than any EA Sports game it has been used for. I didn't have to keep reapplying the facial markers, leaving me more time to actually PLAY the game. Virtual Pro sets itself apart from the rest with the ability to improve your player's skills in any mode in the game. You can even boost his stats by just shooting around in the practice arena.
This practice arena, gives us a lot more freedom than years past. It brings into play, the ability to scrimmage other teams and add customizable set pieces. These set pieces are similar to the feature that was seen in the NHL series, with the create-a-play function. While this won't stir up the average joe, for the soccer strategist, it is a definite plus. The set pieces you create, can be activated from the use of the D-pad in match play.
One feature that I was glad to see get some improvements, was the Manager mode. This gives you the in and outs of a soccer squad with most of the focus, being on player management. When choosing a club, be very careful because money is taken to account. So rest assured that clubs like Manchester U or Chelsea will be sitting among the top of the heap. Manager mode puts into our hands, the ability to control our own revenue with adjusting ticket prices and receiving sponsorship. However, these things alone will not land you the big names. It is accomplishing your objectives, that will get your club a greater amount of money to spend.
Gameplay has been reworked this year with the aforementioned 360-degree player control, giving gamers to take advantage of the holes in the defense that before, were impossible to get through. The surrounding players have received upgrades as well. Players will avoid passes not intended for them and goalkeepers have a better sense of where to pick up loose balls. The new Skilled Dribbling feature gives skilled players the ability to use new moves and more ball control to daze the defender. Size difference has never been more apparent than in any other FIFA series, players are represented to scale and bigger ones will use that to their advantage, to get smaller ones off the ball.
FIFA 10 is a great soccer experience, regardless of being a hardcore fan or not and the added features are just a bonus for a game with fantastic gameplay. The Virtual Pro not being a one-trick pony, will make fans of the series happy, as they realize they have total control of their player and his development into a superstar. If you hit the pitch this year with FIFA 10, you will not regret it.
