It has been reported that approximately 500 small earthquakes measuring up to 3.9 magnitude have occurred at Yellowstone since December 27 of last year.  It is being said that although tremors are common in this area, it is not common to have so many in such a short period of time.

Professor Robert B. Smith, a geophysicist at the University of Utah, says that because it is not normal they are paying close attention to the activity.

According to Howard Pankratz of The Denver Post

The observatory said similar swarms have occurred in the past without triggering steam explosions or volcanic activity. However, the observatory said there is some potential for explosions and that earthquakes may continue and increase in intensity.

It is difficult to say whether or not there will be a volcanic eruption anytime soon, but were it to happen, it would be devastating. About Yellowstone and its possibility to wreak havoc, Pankratz reports

The Yellowstone Plateau, which comprises Yellowstone National Park, is one of the largest super-volcanoes in the world and has gone through three volcanic cycles spanning two million years that included some of the world's largest-known eruptions.

Experts, as well as Homeland Security, continue to monitor the activity that is occurring. There is obviously concern over the possibility of something more serious than small earthquakes happening.

Like other people, I do not believe in Bible prophecy and the notion of end-times. I do, however, think there is a possibility that a natural disaster like this could certainly diminish the human race. But, just as Brian Trent said in his article on this topic, I do not think the human race would be obliterated.

Yet, certain Christians continue to contend that all of the natural disasters that have occurred in recent times are a sign that Armageddon is at hand. They rejoice in the idea that they will soon be reunited with their maker. Regardless of how they look at it and how much they may want it to come, I will continue to loathe the day that such a thing is unleashed on humanity because I do not think it will put an end to humanity, rather I imagine that there will be a great deal of suffering. And. that, in my estimation, is not something to celebrate.
