A new atheist billboard went up in Lakeland over the weekend. On Sunday, Atheists of Florida debuted their new sign. According to the group's Web site, the billboard, which is on Memorial Boulevard, "...is intended to spark up positive, meaningful conversations."
The billboard, which is slated to be in place for 75 days, is not meant as an attack against religious people. Rather it is to let other Know that there are atheists among them.
The group will be hosting a meeting on November 23rd during which they invite theists and others to join them. They will have a panel of atheists available "to address your concerns and to satisfy your curiosity."
The meeting will be held in the Lakeland Public Library Meeting Room at 6:00 p.m. It is open and free to the public. The meeting will be opened with a five minute introduction after which the floor will be opened for discussion.
