The West's gay resort capital will also be a film-lover's capital in 2009.

 Palm Springs annonced its Film Fesitval schedule for 2009 and it includes something for everyone, including one for the LGBT community.

With gas prices and airfares headed south, it may be time for you to head south.

 To kick-off the New Year, the twentieth annual Palm Springs International Film Festival, January 6-19, 2009, will include over 400 screenings of more than 200 films from approximately 60 countries. The star-studded festival will include special events and gala receptions honoring Clint Eastwood, Ron Howard, Anne Hathaway, Dakota Fanning and other A-listers.Tickets and festival information are available online at www.psfilmfest.org or call  (800) 898-7526. 

Now in its eighth season, the 2009 Festival of Native Film & Culture is scheduled for March 4-8, 2009 at the Camelot Theatres in Palm Springs . The festival will feature films, documentaries, and short films from some of today’s premier Native American and international indigenous filmmakers. The Palm Springs Student Short Festival returns to the Camelot Theatres, April 23-25, 2009, featuring student short films from over 15 Coachella Valley High Schools and Middle Schools. Festival information is available online.

The Palm Springs Film Noir Festival returns for its ninth season, May 28-31, 2009, featuring 13 film screenings, special appearances by some of Hollywood ’s greatest Film Noir stars, and special receptions. Cinema Diverse, a Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, is scheduled for July 23-30, 2009 at the Camelot Theatres in Palm Springs . The festival showcases the best in LGBT filmmaking including features, documentaries and shorts. Tickets and festival information are available online.

Recognized as one of the world’s premier short film festivals, the Palm Springs International ShortFest returns in August 2009 to the Camelot Theatres and will feature more than 300 short films, special programs, seminars and more.  Cinema Silver will debut October 22-25, 2009 at the Camelot Theatres. The new festival will celebrate the vibrancy of senior life through the advancement of complex, positive, and life-affirming depictions of seniors. The AFI Palm Springs Showcase will be held in late October or early November 2009 at the Camelot Theatres. Seven award-winning and critically acclaimed films from the Annual AFI Los Angeles International Film Festival (AFI FEST) will be screened. AFI FEST is the longest-running film festival in Los Angeles and one of the most influential film festivals in North America .
