On January 20, 2009, the newly inaugurated U.S. President Barack Obama will inherit over 60 years of secrets about UFO and extraterrestrial visitors phenomena. It is also well known that many of his new cabinet members have strongly advocated openness in government in terms of opening the secret government files about UFOs.

The Obama White House and the breakthroughs in media coverage of UFO stories in 2008 have many people expecting that Obama will finally open these “X-files” to the public. Britain, France, Belgium, and Brazil have already taken the lead. President Jimmy Carter asked for the UFO files the first day of his presidency but was denied them by then CIA Director George H. Bush.

Here’s a chronological list of top UFO news that circled the globe in 2008. The news coverage was more extensive and serious than in past years. But more importantly, the number and significance of the events themselves indicated 2009 could be the real breakthrough in official disclosure of UFO and extraterrestrial visitation phenomena.

1.  January 8 – Major UFO sightings in Stephenville, TX. Numerous citizens reported seeing a large flying craft unlike anything from Earth. Air Force personnel made flip-flopping attempts to discredit the witnesses and failed. See Fox and NBC. The Mutual UFO Network radar investigation supported the citizens’ reports.

2.  April 29 – a proposed ballot initiative to create an Extraterrestrial Affairs Commission in Denver sparked a firestorm of controversy and news coverage. See news archive.

3.  May 13 – “Vatican: It's OK to believe in aliens – The chief astronomer says those beliefs don't contradict faith in God”

4.  May 14 – “Britain releases files on UFO sightings – More than 1,000 documents are from the 1970s and 1980s”

5.  May 14 -  I-Team: New UFO Mystery Surfaces – Crash of UFO south of Las Vegas near Needles, CA

6.  May 30 – Extraterrestrial Affairs Commission Press Conference showing of Stan Romanek’s “Alien in window video”. Stan Romanek and Jeff Peckman on Larry King.

7.  June 10David Letterman interviews Jeff Peckman. A surprisingly serious interview discussed the Stan Romanek alien video, extraterrestrial visitors to Earth, and the influence of the fossil fuel industry in the government UFO cover-up.

8.  July 23 – Edgar Mitchell UFO interview on Kerrang Radio – Dr. Mitchell confirms that the Roswell extraterrestrial UFO crash was real and so are government cover-ups. See news archive.

9. October 20  - “US airman Milton Torres told to shoot down UFO when based at RAF Manston” – Britain releases more UFO files

10. November 5 - President Elect Obama recruits UFO disclosure advocate John Podesta as co-manager of White House Transition team. Other pro-disclosure cabinet members also announced.

Expect more intriguing news, books, and movies in 2009 about UFO and extraterrestrial phenomena, Gary McKinnon, Lockheed, and NASA. But look beyond mainstream media for the best news.

"The Central Intelligence Agency owns everyone of any significance in the major media."
William Colby (1920-1996) former Director of the CIA
