As Robert DeNiro Co-founder of the Tribeca Film Festival stepped up to Honour the Winners of the first Doha Tribeca Film Festival he said: “The turnout for DTFF’s opening night was amazing. I hope the community comes out to celebrate the Festival’s closing night with me.” This was clearly heartfelt. The whole concept of the festival is an incredible political statement by DeNiro as a dyed in the wool New Yorker who called the Big Apple home before and after September 11th. It means a great deal that this hand of recognition to our creative brothers and sisters is being extended, that an effort is being made to find common ground among people on earth.

If anything it can be said that the DTFF is truly an international event. There are 31 films, 11 with roots from the Middle East, 7 with Arab roots. Twenty three countries represented in all:
Algeria; Australia; Austria; Belgium; Brazil; Canada; Egypt; France; Hungary; India; Iran; Iraq; Italy; Lebanon; Mexico; Netherlands; Palestine; Qatar; Switzerland; Tunisia; UAE; UK and our own USA. The Film Slate, or Roster of Films is listed below, and some of the titles may surprise you.

Amanda Palmer, DTFF’s Executive Director announced with regard to the film “Cairo Time”-“We hope that by welcoming Doha’s film enthusiasts to our awards ceremony and closing night film Cairo Time outdoors, we can demonstrate to the entire community in Qatar just how much we appreciate all of the support that DTFF has received.”

There is a great deal of buzz about this film and this is the reason DTFF organizers chose to show it on the closing night of the festival. The purpose-built screen enables up to 3000 of the Festival’s supporters to view the cross-cultural love story. These are the stars:  Actress Patricia Clarkson, actor Alexander Siddig and writer/director Ruba Nadda.
