The President Elect to visit Baltimore!!!
By Sabrina Wartnaby

The President-elect Barack Obama plans to visit Baltimore Maryland the week before his inauguration. The schedule is still in the works. However, Marylanders willing to take the trip will be able to see Obama give a speech during a train stop, in the tradition of Abraham Lincoln, as he travels from Philadelphia to Washington DC.

A crowd of more than 150,000 thousand is expected, according to the mayor’s office, and several locations such as City Hall and the War Memorial Plaza have been scouted by security and media experts.

Baltimore Mayor Dixon and others are hopeful Obama will help them deal with municipal issues they feel were neglected under the outgoing Bush administration. As you may know, Baltimore has several severe issues of urban neglect. It is hoped the President-elect’s new Office of Urban Policy will address issues such as, unreported crime, police and FBI corruption, and numerous health care and poverty issues (Baltimore is the USA’s heroin and HIV capital). The new Office would, according to Dixon, distribute funds directly to city governments allowing locals to distribute government funds without state intervention.

How much do Obama and Lincoln have in common? As a bonus take the following quiz to test your knowledge.
