Canadian trance singer Meighan Nealon is hitting all the right notes overseas!

Within any country there are sure to be many music talents, waiting to be discovered, but that isn't the case for singer Meighan Nealon. Her music career is picking up speed in Europe and elsewhere as she's already had 2 Trance music top 10's in the past year despite only releasing 3 songs.

Born in Toronto to a Jamaican mother and an Irish father, Meighan Nealon is unique blending of cultures. It was actually through dance, that public first met Meighan. While growing up in Toronto, she used to dance on the "Electric Circus" (A popular local live dance TV show). So for her to move into the electronic dance music scene, isn't a complete surprise. What's interesting about Meighan, is that she wasn't afraid to take a chance and go abroad to pursue her music career. Let's be honest here, Canada is not a nation known for our electronic music whereas places like the Netherlands, this style of music is the dominant force (i.e. House, Trance, Dance, Techno).

At present, Meighan constantly moves between Toronto, Taipei, and London (UK). She probably travelled this distance in order to work and make music with the people in her field, and lead her eventually for her to become part of the Auryn Music Group. It's a group of talented artists that collaborate together to make "electronic dance music" (EDM). Auryn Music Group consists of: Meighan Nealon, Ashley Wallbridge, Alex Lamb, Yuan, etc. Their collaborations with Meighan have produced hits "Changes", "My Blood", "I Believe", with more to come.

It seems nowadays music with an "electronic" sound or sample is becoming more popular in general. Even rock bands are mixing in electronic samples, so we have a blurring of music genres. Some proof of that, is her song "My Blood" got licensed to a movie and video game, which brings more broad attention to her music as well as some needed revenue. In the past, most movies wouldn't take a track with pulsating beats, or music that you would hear in clubs. In the past their might have been a stigma of people classifying electronic music as "soulless" and what a DJ's did was not making music, but taking music from pre-made tracks and just shuffling them around. Good thing those attitudes are starting to change, especially if you listen to what the Auryn Music Group is doing. They are not making cookie cutter dance tracks, but sculpting well written "music" that happens to have driving beats and bass, as well as great vocals and lyrics.

A major break for Meighan Nealon came when her song "Faces" was put on the Armin van Buuren's  'A State of Trance 2009' compilation album. A quick reminder, Armin van Buuren is one of the most respected DJ's in Europe if not the world. So getting a song on his album is great exposure for Meighan and her group of collaborators. On top of that, a high quality video was shot for the song "Faces" (below), which was directed by Ciro Ayala.

A description of her singing voice is difficult to describe, but the descriptive words I would use are: light, sweet, and soothing. Also, her singing is different than most electronic music because there's a clearness in her voice allowing you to hear the lyrics. What impresses me the most about Meighan Nealon is although she has tasted a measure of success, she's driven to relentlessy pursue her dreams and goals abroad. So if you want to go see her next show on Oct. 30th, go ahead, but you'll need a plane to the club in Taichung City, Taiwan.
