Good news! If you don't like the over-crowding problem in Camden County, that will soon be rectified by Obama's health care plan. Yeah, down with population density!
The bad news is that grandma and grandpa are going to be killed. So, take those family pictures and enjoy this holiday season. It might be their last!
The quote heard round the world via Facebook:
"The Democrats promise that a government health care system will reduce the cost of health care, but as the economist Thomas Sowell has pointed out, government health care will not reduce the cost; it will simply refuse to pay the cost. And who will suffer the most when they ration care? The sick, the elderly, and the disabled, of course. The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama’s 'death panel' so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their 'level of productivity in society,' whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil."
The above quote from former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin set off quite the outrage among liberal elites. Is there any other public official willing to take so bold a stand against socialized medicine? There are some leaders in the GOP who are standing up against this socialist usurpation of one seventh of the nation's economy, but most do so in hushed tones and in the apologetic manner of a school child about to face the fury of the local bully. Meanwhile, many linguini-spined Democrats and commentators are crying foul over the use of the phrase "death panels."
One would have to wonder why. The Democratic party is the proud party of death. Excuses are made for all kinds of murder. Unborn babies, when they are not telepathically communicating with former Senator John Edwards, are not entitled to the right to life. Killing at the hands of Jihadist Muslim terrorists is also downplayed in order to avoid offending the terrorists (though keep an eye on those wacko pro-life Christians!) Indeed, victory is no longer even the stated goal of the war Afghanistan according to our esteemed Commander-in-Chief. He doesn't want to offend the peace-loving Muslims in the Taliban with the idea of surrender. Then of course, there is the liberal scion and "conscience of the Senate" Teddy Kennedy. In addition to a lifetime spent celebrating the aforementioned murder of womb-dwellers, Kennedy is famous for driving his mistress off a bridge in a drunken stupor and then clawing his way to freedom from the sinking car while waiting over 24 hours to even report his mistress dead at the bottom of the bay. So, one has to wonder why they shrink from the "death panels" accusation. As they say, if it walks like a duck...come to think of it, Teddy Kennedy does sort of waddle!
Well, Sarah Palin was right about the "death panels." Apparently Dr. Emanuel missed the memo on the new party line on "death panels." One of Obama's top health care officials, and the brother of his Chief of Staff Raum Emanuel, Dr. Emanuel says that doctors should stop clinging to that Hippocratic Oath. They should instead view care through the wisdom of "communitarianism."
What is that? Well, giving medical care to the "non-disabled" not those "who are irreversibly prevented from being or becoming participating citizens...An obvious example is not guaranteeing health services to patients with dementia." This direct quote from Dr. Emanuel was given in the Hastings Center Report in Nov-Dec 96. Admittedly, that gives him plenty of wiggle room to claim that he is now against something he was once adamantly for.
No matter how the TelePrompter scripts it for Obama, it is still going to be the same bottom line: government officials making life or death decisions regarding your health care. It can not be avoided. That is, it never has in any of the nations around the world who have gone to the single-payer system. Ever. Anywhere. America will be no different.
So, as our lady from Alaska again steers the topic of discussion to the "evils" of Obama's health care, it seems prudent to take a peek at what is in store for New Jersey under the socialized medicine fantasized about endlessly by Barack Obama and the Democrat ruling elites.
And, make no mistake, socialized "single payer" system is the ultimate goal. It might not be the first step. It may take time. It is, however, clearly the stated goal of this administration.
Don't think so? Well, explain this quote from State Senator Barack Obama from 2003:
"I happen to be a proponent of a single payer universal healthcare plan. I see no reason why the United States of America, the wealthiest country in the history of the world, spending 14 percent of its Gross National Product on health care cannot provide basic health care to everybody. And that's what Jim is talking about when he says 'everybody in, nobody out.' A single payer health care plan, a universal healthcare plan. And that's what I'd like to see. But as all of you know, we may not get there immediately..."
Don't believe it, watch it here.
Again, in front of 1,800 people at a town-hall style meeting on the economy during the 2008 campaign, U.S. Senator Obama said: "If I were designing a system from scratch, I would probably go ahead with a single-payer system."
And again in 2007:
"My commitment is to make sure that we've got universal health care for all Americans by the end of my first term as president. I would hope that we can set up a system that allows those who can go through their employer to access a federal system or a state pool of some sort, but I don't think we're going to be able to eliminate employer coverage immediately. There's going to be potentially some transition process. I can envision a decade out of 15 years out or 20 years out."
Again, watch the video of said speech to hear it from the Great Scripted One's own lips here.
So perhaps now is a good time to dispense with all of the "is he or isn't he" for government-run socialized medicine. He is. He's just using the Kerry diversion tactic of "I was for it before I was against it," in hopes that the masses won't notice.
So, if you are happy with the way the U.S. Postal service is being run (and given the latest news that it is almost bankrupt and closing many offices, who isn't?) support Obamacare. If you love the fact that social security will be bankrupt within 20 years and that medicare is right behind it, support Obamacare.
Just remember President Reagan's words on government programs: "Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we’ll ever see on this earth.”
So, what does the next greatest hit from the people who brought you such hits as the "DMV" and the "IRS" mean for America, or more importantly, for New Jersey? As the scores of people fleeing England and Canada when a life-threatening illness strikes will tell you, socialized medicine ain't all it's cracked up to be.
"But, it's free!" you shout, giddy with your own ignorance.
Free in the sense that the top tax rates in many states will top 50% and may even hit 60% thanks to the plan, putting the American tax rate higher than most European nations.
"Yeah! Sock it to the rich!" you say, content in your class warfare coolness.
Sure, but the reality is that even if Obama taxed the top "evil rich folks" at 100% of their income, they still couldn't pay for this program. So, who do you think might pay for it? Do you think Obama will cut spending elsewhere? Oh, he'll cut spending alright--yours, as he reaches into your wallet to pay for his plan. With the rich gone, we will be left to ask if that poor man sleeping in his own filth on the street corner is hiring. Dust off those resumes folks!
The type of care will diminish as well. This is important in an area of the state where the cancer rates are higher than the state average in most cases. Sadly under nationalized care in the U.K. and Canada, cancer survival rates are much lower than America. The bottom line is that inevitably between the "death panels" and the diminished care of an inefficient governmental behemoth, many more Camden County residents will die each year.
Consider the following statistics about the evil capitalist health care system of America versus the utopian socialist health care of the U.K.:
Breast cancer kills 25% of its American patients, 46% of the U.K. patients. In a County where we already have a 34% death rate of breast cancer, we could still look at over 10% higher number of women dying from breast cancer. How many more women of Camden County will be dead as a result of the inefficiencies of socialized medicine?
Additionally, prostate cancer kills 19% of its victims in America, while a staggering 57% of U.K. patients die from the disease. Even in the "cancer valley" of Camden County, a total of 34% of men with prostate cancer die. Even by that high number, we are looking at over a 20% increase in prostate-cancer related deaths.
The bottom line is that no matter how good it might make you feel to believe that all Americans are covered by healthcare, the soon-to-be single-payer Obamacare plan will result in a decrease in care and an increase in otherwise avoidable deaths. If that is something you want, then go for it.
Before you report this column to flag@whitehouse.gov, think long and hard about grandma and grandpa's date with the "death panel."
