It's time for the public to get involved in planning the future of Devils Postpile National Monument. In anticipation of the Monument's 100th birthday in 2011, National Park officials have begun working on a General Management Plan that will shape the future of the park. They hope to have the plan in draft form by that 100-year birthday.
"We are at an important crossroads in terms of the future of the Monument," stated Park Superintendent Deanna Dulen in a recent press release. "It is now time to chart the course for management, resource protection and visitor use in a new general management plan that will guide us into the next century."
The public is invited to attended one of four open house meetings in Mammoth Lakes and share their ideas and concerns. The first open house will be held July 8 from 6-8:30 p.m. in Suite Z, located near Vons, directly above Elegant Kitchen and Bath. The second gathering will be held the following day, July 9, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Mammoth Lakes Library on Sierra Park Road. The final two open houses will be held in September with the first on the 9th form 6-8 p.m., again at Suite Z, and the second on the 10th from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Mammoth Lakes Library.
