Super Bowl theme invites from MyPunchBowl.com

Super Bowl Sunday will soon be upon us and sports fans everywhere are gearing up for a day of food, friends, and football. While I’m not the biggest sports fan I am in favor of any reason to throw a good bash. Here are some simple tips for your Super Bowl celebration.

Get the word out: Still haven’t sent your invites? Well, what in the world are you waiting for? Go to MyPunchBowl.com for free Super Bowl e-invitations as well as great party planning tips. Invitations are customizable to fit your party’s theme and color scheme. Import your guest list and manage RSVPs through the site. They also offer ways to share photos and videos with your guests after the event.

Feed the team: If you’re not the type to spend hours in the kitchen whipping up sandwiches and football shaped cakes, there’s still time to order a few platters from the supermarket. They’ve gotten a bad rap but lots of supermarkets are stepping it up in the catering department. Giant has a great website where you can order online and pickup in store. You can’t beat 24 fresh baked cupcakes for only 15 bucks!

Supplement your store brought goodies with this cornbread topped chili con carne recipe from Nigella Bites on the Food Network.  Save even more time by using premade chili and a boxed cornbread mix. Such a great twist on a classic and definitely an improvement on hot dogs and hamburgers.

Serve drinks like the pros from this Igloo Cooler at Target.com

Prep the field: This is the perfect event to really go crazy with theme décor.  Hit the clearance racks at your local sporting goods store or discount chain for mini footballs, helmets, jerseys, and games.  Head to Home Depot for “astro-turf” to decorate table tops. This would make a great base on your buffet or cut into small squares and top with mini footballs for simple centerpieces.    Stock up on pompoms and noise makers to help everyone cheer on their favorite team.

Stay hydrated: For a grownup sports drink, serve this Gatorade Cocktail from CocktailPlace.com:

Ingredients:

- 1 1/2 oz. vodka
- 1 1/2 oz. white rum
- 1 1/2 oz. Orange Schnapps
- 1 1/3 oz. sweet and sour
- 1/2 oz. orange juice

Directions:

Garnish with lemon and serve over ice
