A massive free festival Sunday at San Francisco's Speedway Meadows in Golden Gate Park will easily bring back memories of Woodstock 40 years ago.

The event, called West Fest and running from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., will feature over 40 musical acts, plus a craft faire, alternative energy exhibits and much more.

The performers will include Country Joe McDonald and Barry "The Fish" Melton, both of whom performed in Country Joe and the Fish at the original Woodstock but are billed separately here, plus many veteran musicians. These include John York (from the Byrds), the Nick Gravenites Band, Lydia Pense and Cold Blood, Edwin Hawkins and the new Edwin Hawkins Singers, Peter Kaukonen, Kathi McDonald and Friends, Denny Laine, Ray Manzarek and Michael McClure, Harvey Mandel, David and Linda LaFlamme, Leslie West and Ronnie Montrose.

And that's just a short list.

Among the events at the show, in honor of Jimi Hendrix, Narada Michael Walden Featuring Vernon Ice Black will lead 3,000 guitar players attempting to break the world's record for the largest
guitar ensemble playing "Purple Haze" at the same time.

For more information, see the West Fest website.
