When planning any vacation with kids, especially the diaper-clad contingent, where you stay can make every difference between a relaxing enjoyable getaway and one with nonstop childproofing woes characterized by the constant loading and unloading of the diaper bag and gear as you are forced to take (and gas up) the car every time you want to see the “local beach” or get a bite to eat.

In this series, I’ll be highlighting some of the best sites on the Web for helping parents find good, comfortable places to stay with their children, from basic roadside motels in the U.S. to exotic villas in the Greek Islands. I’m starting with Jamie Pearson’s site created by moms in the know for families on the go: Travel Savvy Mom.

TravelSavvyMom.com features unbiased, independently written reviews of hotels and vacation rental properties around the world, written with a mom’s-eye view of what makes them work—and sometimes not—for families with children of various age ranges.

Reviews encompass vacation properties around the globe, including Africa, Asia, Canada, the Caribbean, Central America, Europe (already 100 properties reviewed), Mexico, the Middle East, South America, South Pacific, and across the United States.

For each vacation property featured, be it a basic hotel or motel, condo, apartment, ecolodge, all-inclusive resort, cottage, inn, guest farm, family-friendly B&B, or tree house, you’ll get the parent-to-parent nuts and bolts info you need, including:

  • Property details, with an at-a-glance overview of parent-centric perks
  • Location details and tips, e.g. the “real dirt” as far as location (sure it’s on the beach, but are the waves too rough for kids to play safely?)
  • Sleeping capacity with available room types, including crib or rollaway bed options
  • Highlights of the property from a parent’s perspective
  • “Good to know” tips on everything from how to get the most value from your buffet breakfast and the best spots by the pool to where to pick up those extra Pampers and snacks at nearby shops or buy your subway pass.
TravelSavvyMom.com also keeps an entertaining blog to be sure, written by a handful of moms who have traveled the world and never fail to share helpful tips and advice. Bookmark it for help planning your next family’s road trip or overseas adventure: www.travelsavvymom.com.

Stay tuned for more great sites to help plan your family’s next trip.
