Shortly after launching my Sexy Toys feature with a series of reviews of vibrators from LELO and Jimmyjane, I received a review package from Liberator Bedroom Adventure Gear with their signature Liberator Shapes, The Wedge and Ramp Combo.

More than a month later, and after extensive research with a male partner, I would recommend these products to any couple – hetero- or homosexual – looking to keep their bedroom activities fresh and adventurous.

The smaller Wedge is 14 inches long and 7 inches tall, with a 27 degree angle, essentially a rigid foam triangle pillow covered in a washable microfiber cover. Click here for a not-quite-safe-for-work look at some of the suggested positions, many of them facilitating deep penetration, G-spot access, or oral sex (Liberator calls the Wedge "the connoisseur's serving spoon of choice," and if your budget is limited I'd recommend starting with this one).

The larger Ramp comes in a variety of lengths and heights to accomodate shorter and taller partners, and is great for rear-entry positions, positions where one partner is standing, and riding positions. Neither of these shapes are going to fit in your treasure chest of sex toys, but they're worth making some room for somewhere in your bedroom all the same.

Either the Ramp ($140) or Wedge ($60) alone can add new dimensions to your sex life and help you and your partner explore new sex positions comfortably, but after playing around with both together, I'd recommend the combo, now priced at $185: Together, these two simple triangle shapes will help you and your partner into dozens of new positions. Think of them as 3-dimensional tangrams that will transform your lovemaking.

How much difference can something so simple make? My partner and I have been pleasantly surprised: You can achieve some of what the Liberator products offer using some strategically-placed pillows or by taking a lot of yoga classes – adventurous lovers have been using props and bending every which way since long before the The Kama Sutra, after all – but the Wedge and Ramp are sturdy, comfortable pieces of bedroom furniture that work in concert with each other to support all manner of lovemaking. Consider it an investment in your romantic well-being, a stay-cation that will pay off in dividends for the life of your relationship. I've also heard reports that pregnant women love the Liberator products and can't imagine sex without them during pregnancy.

If you get hooked on the tantric Tetris and want to add to your collection of building blocks, the Wedge and Ramp can also be used in combination with any of the other Liberator Shapes or Sex Furniture. My partner and I have our eye on the curvy Esse chaise lounger, and for any future upgrades we'll probably shop from the Black Label collection: Buckles and soft-cuff restraints look to add just the right amount of additional kink to the Liberator shapes.

The Wedge/Ramp combo's single biggest selling point for my partner and I has been that many of the different possible arrangements greatly facilitate oral sex positions, helping both the giving and receiving partners (and frequently both at the same time, of course) into comfortable positions that support the neck and allow for longer, more intense sessions without discomfort. We tried the shapes in bed, on the floor, against the wall, and even on a table to make a proper meal of the experience, and we've found that playing around with the Wedge and Ramp in various configurations has greatly extended the length and quality of our foreplay.

Liberator products are also great for rear entry and anal sex positions, providing support to the knees, chest, shoulders, elbows, wrists, and back so you can focus on the more important anatomy involved. The Liberator website offers a Position of the Week feature and the Wedge/Ramp Combo ships with a Kama Sutra Love Play DVD and a sexy position guide, Be A Love Artist: Never Stop Exploring You, that provide plenty of inspiration. Again, you might have been able to get into some of these positions before with a flexible partner or by sheer determination, but the Wedge and Ramp allow you to collapse into them, relax completely, and expand your sexual horizons.

The Wedge and Ramp are sex toys in the best sense of the word: They are meant to be played with and experimented with, and they're built for two (or more, if that's your thing). We've been having a great time reenacting some of the pictures from the website and following along with the position guide, but it's even more fun to set the triangles up in creative new ways and try out new ideas, just for fun.

Just as adding some sexy lingerie to your costume closet (Liberator has some of that too, now that I mention it) can heighten a sexual experience, bringing some props into play and trying something new can completely transform your sex into a more dramatic and entertaining event. If you're trying to hit some new spots, go deeper, or otherwise take your sex play to new levels, it's all about the angles.
